Re: St. John's Lighthouse Postcard Exchange discussions - 10/06/0002:42 AM
Your welcome, John! I wrote out all my postcards on 10/2/00 and mailed them the next morning on 10/3/00. The US Post Office really did a fine job of getting the card to you so quickly. I have received two cards so far, one from Maureen and the other from Patty & Mike. I'm looking forward to receiving many more and adding them to my collection.
Re: St. John's Lighthouse Postcard Exchange discussions - 10/06/0004:10 AM
Like Bob, we're glad our postcards are making it across the country. So far, we've only received Maureen's. It is odd that Bob's got to Arizona before NY.
Just checked e-mail and we did get a "Texas Postcard via e-mail" from Tom & Joyce until the real one arrives!!
Thanks everyone.
Patty & Mike

I have received Mo's (last week) and Patty & Mike's today. Also got a Texas electronic card from the Abbotts in today's e-mail. Mo card from Bob - must have sent John's FedEx.
Re: St. John's Lighthouse Postcard Exchange discussions - 10/06/0002:18 PM
This thread may be an interesting way to track the efficiency of the US Postal Service. I was shocked to hear my postcard made it to JC so quickly. You can't beat that service for 20 cents.
Re: St. John's Lighthouse Postcard Exchange discussions - 10/09/0005:39 AM
I just got in tonight from Seattle. What a nice surprise to have 2 post cards in my mail pile. I have been gone for 5 days so I am not sure when they arrived. Thanks Bob and Mike & Patty! I was able to pick up my post cards to mail out while on my trip. I should have them in the mail this week.
Re: St. John's Lighthouse Postcard Exchange discussions - 10/10/0012:09 AM
Hey Dave, having a little trouble with your mail are you? Remember WHO gets your mail before you do. Your carrier can be in total control of your life, if they choose to be. They can decide what mail you get and when. So be nice to your carrier.
Re: St. John's Lighthouse Postcard Exchange discussions - 10/10/0006:10 AM
Cheryl,
You may want to check last weeks chat log for reference to mail carriers by the son of one........
I firmly believe that my mail carrier scored at the lower end of the qualifying test (or could be the higher end in some areas) - lol. Maybe that's why he is on my route.
Notice that the USPO took another day off today. Guess the boat didn't get in with the mail from the old country. tic
Re: St. John's Lighthouse Postcard Exchange discussions - 10/11/0001:35 AM
I received a card, within an envelope, from Gary & Kay Toth in today's mail. It was postmarked 10/7, and arrived on 10/10. That's decent mail service from St. Louis to Massachusetts.
Re: St. John's Lighthouse Postcard Exchange discussions - 10/11/0003:33 AM
WOW Three postcards in one day. Best mail day in a long time
We received cards from Gary and Kay, Brent, and Rich today. Thanks to all for all the great photos. We still have some organizing to do before ours will enter the wonderful United States Postal system. Until later, have a great one
Re: St. John's Lighthouse Postcard Exchange discussions - 10/11/0009:52 PM
I received my St. Georges Reef postcard from Rich Rohweder in Eureka, California. Mailed on 10/7, arrived on 10/11. That's pretty good time for a postcard to cross the country.
Re: St. John's Lighthouse Postcard Exchange discussions - 10/13/0011:53 AM
I've received five postcards so far, the latest from Bill Harnsberger in Portland, Maine. These cards are going to make a wonderful addition to my collection.
Re: St. John's Lighthouse Postcard Exchange discussions - 10/14/0012:30 AM
I received two more cards today. One from Lorie Roe and the other from Brent Westwood. Brent mailed his card on 10/10/00 from Roanoke, VA. According to the postmark on Lorie's card, it was mailed from my hometown of North Attleboro today. I guess Lorie's card snuck through without a cancellation of the stamp so the boys at the local P.O. took care to remedy the situation.
This postcard exchange is really great. I'm getting some super cards for my collection!
Re: St. John's Lighthouse Postcard Exchange discussions - 10/16/0011:00 PM
Here's my list of cards received as of 10/16/00

Chesapeake Bay Lighthouses - Maureen Cape Henry Lighthouses - Brent Michigan City Lighthouse - Stephan St. George Reef - Rich R Cardiff Hill MO - The Toth's Charlotte/Genesee Lighthouse - The Kaisers Fisgard British Columbia - Lorie Roe Sankaty Head - Bob M (I believe he sent different cards to different folks)
And from me to you... Fort Gratiot Michigan
I also got a 'bonus card' from Rich - Battery Point
TD Simpson mentions receiving the Lightship HURON. I've not received that yet - hope it's not a duplicate of the ones I bought for LHPCE2.
Re: St. John's Lighthouse Postcard Exchange discussions - 10/17/0012:23 PM
You're right, John. I did send different cards to everyone. Unfortunately, I didn't keep track of who got what. Those of you that were on the first list will probably get a different card. I will check my first list and compare it to my second. My boat came home last Wednesday and I have a fresh supply of different cards from cleaning out the boat.
I hope to get those out within the next couple of days. I'm thoroughly enjoying the postcard exchanges.
Re: St. John's Lighthouse Postcard Exchange discussions - 10/17/0011:53 PM
As with Bob, most of my cards are different with most of'em coming from Michigan, Virginia, North Carolina, and Nova Scotia. As of today I've received 10 cards...and they're all very nice.....'keep'em coming
Re: St. John's Lighthouse Postcard Exchange discussions - 10/18/0002:16 AM
I can't tell you how much I've enjoyed getting my postcards. It's been a stressful time for me since mid-September. Hopefully it will pass soon and everything will be back to normal. Receiving and reading your cards has really brightened my days. Thank you and I hope to send my cards out this weekend. I just need to find enough of them.
Re: St. John's Lighthouse Postcard Exchange discussions - 10/18/0012:10 PM
I received a great card of Fort Gratiot on the 17th. Thanks, St. John! I can't say enough about what a shot in the arm this is doing for my lighthouse postcard collection.
Re: St. John's Lighthouse Postcard Exchange discussions - 10/18/0002:51 PM
When I returned home on Tuesday, there were lots of new postcards in my mail. They are so enjoyable and not a repeat in the group. I like Joanne hope to get mine out soon.
Re: St. John's Lighthouse Postcard Exchange discussions - 10/22/0011:35 PM
Today was a good HL adventure day.
I was in Leesburg, FL over the weekend and decided to come back home today by way of my HL dealer and Tampa International Airport Post Office.
My dealer had two lights for me, the Rep's Beckoning Beacon and Hereford Inlet. The latter is all everyone said it was and more. Mailed my 25 postcards from the postoffice and the gent who waited on me asked if he could hand cancel them. When you receive yours, you will understand why. I hope that all of you on my list will enjoy the postcard as much as I did preparing it to mail.
So far, I have received 11 postcards and am anxiously waiting for the others to arrive. Thanks again to St. John for coming up with this idea. Derith

Re: St. John's Lighthouse Postcard Exchange discussions - 10/23/0002:29 AM
I'm up to 19 total cards between the two exchanges.
I'm a bit disapppointed -- not at all with the cards -- but with the condition when they arrive. The automated sorting equipment at the USPS is chewing up the edges and in some places eating through the surface of the picture side as the wheels spin against them. That's true of EVERY card except the Toth's that they sent in an envelope.
I've bought a number of 90 year old used lighthouse post cards on ebay and am amazed at what good condition most of them are in.
Re: St. John's Lighthouse Postcard Exchange discussions - 10/23/0003:46 AM
All the postcards I have received have been in really good condition. Two of them arrived with a long plain white label on it. I imagine it was put there by the PO. But, they peeled right off. The ones I sent will probably have the PO bar code on it right over my signature. But then I got carried away with the message.
Re: St. John's Lighthouse Postcard Exchange discussions - 10/23/0011:53 AM
I haven't received today's mail yet since it is only 0555 hours on the East Coast, but the count on deck re cards received is:
10 - Postcard exchange 1 6 - Postcard exchange 2
The cards have come through in good shape with a little corner wear and a "wheel" scratch on one. A couple came through with the adhesive strip of tape on it but it was very easy to remove without damaging the postcard.
Re: St. John's Lighthouse Postcard Exchange discussions - 10/23/0003:02 PM
We have received a lot of really great postcards. With a few exceptions, the cards arrived in good shape. A few had small tears on the ends and a little wear on the corners. So far we have received:
Our cards will go in the mail today to both groups. We tried something different and are keeping our fingers crossed that they are not completely mangled by the post office.
Re: St. John's Lighthouse Postcard Exchange discussions - 10/24/0012:38 AM
I received three more great postcards today from Donna Martel, Bob Scroope, and Tom & Diane Simpson. I look forward to checking the mail each day and finding something other than junk mail or bills.
Re: St. John's Lighthouse Postcard Exchange discussions - 10/24/0001:06 AM
I've received a total of 17 cards.....14 from group #1 and 3 from #2. Most of the cards that I've gotten are in good shape, however, 3 of'em have had the edges chewed-up a bit. With that aside....its been a real treat receiving the cards that I've gotten so far and I can tell ya [already] that I'll miss it when they stop coming. Those with the notes on the back do lend a personal touch but I enjoy them all just the same!!
Re: St. John's Lighthouse Postcard Exchange discussions - 10/25/0003:38 AM
Donna's postcard arrived today.
Seeing the surrounding area on the postcards has been of interest to me. Altho' I have lots of books and have seen lots of lighthouses in pictures and photos, also in videos, some of the ones I have received I have never laid eyes on. The histories are also really interesting.
Thanks all of you! Derith

Re: St. John's Lighthouse Postcard Exchange discussions - 10/25/0008:10 AM
Sorry to be late on this one folks! Since I do not live near any lighthouses and wasn't smart enough to buy lots of extras on our trip to Galveston this summer, I had to order some post cards. They haven't come yet, but are on their way! I am looking forward to mailing them out soon. I really am enjoying receiving all the wonderful cards and well wishes too!
Re: St. John's Lighthouse Postcard Exchange discussions - 10/25/0012:36 PM
Four more cards arrived in yesterday's mail. Battery Point from Rich Rohweder, Little Sable Point from Todd Shorkey, Wind Point from Suzanne Murphy, and Mukilteo Lightstation from Darlene Cook. All the cards arrived in excellent shape. Four more very welcome additions to my postcard collection. Thanks all!
