It seems a shame that there are still some coastal states that have no HL lighthouses sculpted, when some other states have many. I am putting in a plug here for New Hampshire. There are two nice ones: White Island Light on Isle of Shoals and Portsmouth Harbor. So far no NH lights have been made.

I would like to urge HL to make a model of Portsmouth Harbor Light along with a section of the old, old fort which is its backdrop. This would be an unusual piece.

By the time it could be made, Connie Small would be turning 100. She and her husband were the last keepers. This would be a fitting honorarium piece for a lady who has done more for lighthouse preservation on the East Coast than anyone else over a long span of time. (Please read my posting on the General Forum tonight on Keeper's wife turns 99 for full details).

Please join me by posting your support here for this special light. Thank you.

This is a great idea. I have visited both of these New Hampshire lights. This would be a great way to honor Connie Small.

I never realized we had a coastal state with lighthouses that haven't been represented with a Harbour Light replica. I would definitely like to see HL offer a light from New Hampshire.

HL produced Whaleback Light (#127). I believe Whaleback Light is in New Hampshire. HL lists this light as being in New Hampshire.

Your right Flame! Whaleback is in New Hampshire. I thought it was because we saw it just before the reunion in 1998. We still need a lighthouse figurine from Alaska!!!!

This would be a very fitting tribute as this was the last light where the Smalls served. But then Seguin was another and that would make a nice HL also.

I may be wrong. but I believe that Whaleback is officially listed as being in Maine.
For a history of the lighthouse, check out the link below: http://www.lighthouse.cc/whaleback/history.html

Thank you Lightkeeper for putting on this definitive website that says Whaleback belongs to MAINE. This site belongs to Jeremy D'Entremont, who manages our HL NELL club website and belongs to our club. He is a lighthouse historian and does much research for his own webpage of beautiful New England lighthouse photography. See www.lighthouse.cc

Our NELL club was up in Portsmuth last fall for 3 days, and I had scheduled a 5 hour lighthouse cruise for them. The captain said also that Whaleback belongs to MAINE.

So my WISH remains -- HL needs to make a NH lighthouse sculpture.

Whaleback is definately in Maine. My wife and I spent a night at the Whaleback Inn B&B(it is no longer operating) in Kittery, Maine a few years ago. The light flashed in our bedroom window all night long. It was really great.

That's a wonderful idea Barbara. I second (or third or fourth) your motion. That would certainly be a fitting tribute to this lady who has so selflessly given of herself for so long.

On the cruise I took out of Portsmouth, we were told that there is disagreement between the two states as to which state Whaleback lighthouse is in.

White Island Light on Isle of Shoals, situated on the rocky island, gets my vote for picturesque NH lighthouse.

Harbour Lights has Whaleback listed as being in New Hampshire. So which state is it? They have never been wrong before? Have they?!?!

It's also interesting to note that the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard is in Kittery, Maine.

Every mapa that I have checked regarding this light shows the light to be on the Maine side of the state line. The problem that I have is that it also shows White Island to be in Maine also. Problems!!!

When I booked that cruise for our club, I had also talked to another company out of Rye, NH, which goes past the Isle of Shoals. I had asked about accessibility for our club getting out to White Island Light; and had said it would make an unique NH State Park. He commented that the water was very rough and landing people would be hazardous. He then said that the State of NH had leased the lighthouse there to a diving school for their headquarters. So I guess that lighthouse does belong to NH, not Maine.

Our local papers have written articles on the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. THere is a dispute about ownership also. THe article mentioned NH people working at a NH facility but having to pay state income tax to Maine. (NH does not have any state income tax). So feelings have been running high. Maybe ownership will change someday when all the disputes are settled---- and if Whaleback reverts back to NH, then the HL flag would be correct.

According to Mrs. Small's book:

"Then, after twenty-six years spent on islands, Elson decided he'd like to be on the mainland. When he learned that Portsmouth Harbour Light, also called Fort Point Light, in New Castle, New Hampshire was to be vacant, Elson asked to be transferred there."

Of course this was a long time ago

I too agree that a HL replica of Portsmouth Harbor Light would be a great addition to the HL line, especially if it is to honor Connie Small. I bet that would really mean a lot to her!
