Ok...this is attempt #3. Yesterday the boat was taken out for the first time of the year so we decided to head down to Wind Point and get some pictures. There was haze in the sky which you will see in the pictures but I guess every day can't be perfect. At least the waves were calm. bouyhunter, use this link to upload and post your photos: posting photos on the forums I don't think Webshots allows for sharing. This way, you can load directly from your hard drive without hosting elsewhere. Once I got used to this, I saved this link where I could always find it quickly. Hope you find this helpful. I'm looking forward to seeing your photos. Judy

Your images won't display because the rather lengthy link to them includes what are considered illegal characters - there are " ? " in the string, and the only two characters allowed are " _ " and " - ". Judy's suggestion to use the space made availabe on lighthousekeepers is a good one. We just ask that the images you upload be ones that are to be shared with others here on the Collector Forums.

That would be a no. What am I missing? I up loaded the file and named it how it should be. The file size is less then 600 pixels wide and the name contains no spaces.
PS Even though there appears to be a space in my e-mail address it is an underscore and it is being typed in with one.

You need to capitilize the .jpg on the end of the link.
http://www.lighthousekeepers.com/uploads/files/buoyhunter_190@yahoo.com/wpa.jpg ( should end .JPG)
If you do so you get this. http://www.lighthousekeepers.com/uploads/files/buoyhunter_190@yahoo.com/wpa.JPG
Very nice picture.

If you use the "Preview Post" button before "Add Reply" you will get to see what we will see when you do hit "Add Reply." If you get the dreaded red "x", try to determine what you've done wrong, make the change(s), "Preview Post" again, and if it comes up with the picture, then click on "Add Reply." I've also taken what Judy spoke of one step further in that I've saved the instructions for uploading pics to CF in a favorites folder, as well as the string required to get the pics into the thread within the forum site--the string looks like this: I paste that string in this message box and replace my email address.com/name of picture - no spaces or punctuation - with my email address.com and whatever I've used as the picture name. Don't give up--it seems complicated at first, but once you figure it out, you'll wonder why you thought it too complicated. Trust me, buoyhunter--I'm about as dense as concrete when it comes to interpreting instructions. Hoping to see your pics of Wind Point soon. . . . Sandy

I save mine exactly the way Sandy does. Makes it really easy for all the next times.
Odd about the capitalizing .jpeg, though. I've always used lower case.

Brian,
You are on the right track. I fixed the link above to display your Wind Point image. Two things going on that will help you display your images:
• Eric & Sandy pointed to the first issue: has to be an exact case match to display. In your case, whatever program you are using to edit uses a JPG extension, and you were using jpg (caps vs lower case). Easy fix. • No spaces in file names at all. I changed the name of the one you uploaded with spaces to now be "WindPoint1a.JPG". All I did was remove the spaces.
Now that you know how to post, lets see some more please. Not too often we get to see the water side view of lots of these lights. I think this is the first time anyone has shared Wind Point from the water.

I took these yesterday. I pulled the boat out of storage so we figured that we would head down to Wind Point. It's about an 45 min to hour ride south of where we launch in Milwaukee.

Brian,
Your pictures of Wind Point are great. I've never seen pictures of the lighthouse from the water. This is a first. I grew up just a couple of miles from the light and played golf on their 9-hole course many times when I was in my teens.
Oh -- congratulations in your perseverance. I failed so many times trying to post pictures on my own that I just gave up.

Thanks everyone. I probably took about 70 pictures from the water. You can never have too many pictures when you are fighting with a long lens and a rocking boat. The hope is for this weekend or next to visit Port Washington. The plan for this year is to visit all of the light houses on the Lake Michigan side via boat.
