Interest in a Harbour Lights 'Screen Saver'? - 01/23/99 05:32 AM

What's your interest in a Harbour Lights Screen Saver for Windows users?

Possible Images:
Choice 1 - Mark Sherman paintings
Choice 2 - Photographs of lightouses
Choice 3 - Paul Brady's photographs of Harbour Lights (See the Catalog at www.HarbourLights.com)
Choice 4 - With or Without a nautical soundtrack:
www.HarbourLights.com/site/sounds/nautical.wav

10-12 Images in each, option to purchase additional images in the future?

$24.95 on a CD-ROM or $18.95 to download it from the Internet.

Perhaps a free HarbourLights.com mouse pad with the first 200 Screen Savers ordered?

Good idea St. John. Count me in for 1 or 3. #4 doesn't matter to me, I usually have my speakers turned off anyway (silence can be golden).

John, the HL Hatteras mousepad image on the URL listed seems to cut-off the lens room. I have the actual mousepad received at the Reunion and it looks great. I'm sure others would like one also.

The screen saver idea is a winner. I'm partial to the Mark Sherman watercolors.

Great idea John. Since I started collecting HLs
I've been looking for them to offer us some screen savers.
I've used my scanner to make HL lighthouses wallpaper
for my computer. The Mark Sherman prints work great. So
do the images on the HL calendars.

Probably a good idea for Harbour Lights John. It should be a high margin item for them. Easy to do and most of the source material already exists.

A couple of thoughts. Maybe a subscription type of offering. Some images to start (1999 calendar?) and updates as new HL are released or something like that. Also, if there's a sound option, just be sure it can be turned on and off.

Screen Saver?

My screen never gets a chance to rest! I am always too busy reading or typing and being wacko.

John : I vote for photographs of Light houses (including Brady's and others)and the nautical soundtrack. Also if your going to give out mouse pads,re-do it with Portland Head with snow, then maybe there won't be so many that want it re-done as a glow.

John, screen saver is a great idea. I agree with the nautical sound, but also believe it should be able to be turned on and off. What about a mixture of actual pictures with the HL replica down in the bottom corner, or on the next image?

No interest here. If mine's on it means I'm not here so who cares what it looks like. A mousepad is a nice idea, maybe for a Society item.

I like the screen saver idea. How about it switching between the Mark Sherman prints, the Harbour Lights replica, and then the real thing. The real thing could have the light flashing it's signature flashes and the sound could be the fog bell or whistle from that particular lighthouse.

Good Idea, Ron -- could you go out with a recorder and capture those bell and fog sounds? Really!

How about a freebie for those collectors who register their collections?

John-great idea! I've used one of the screen savers from Lighthouse Depot for years. Count me in. Would prefer #1 or #3.

John,
I have a Severe Weather screen saver that switches through a dozen or so scenes at selected intervals. Are we talking something that sophisticated. Or, up once, then on forever.

Just asking!!!!!

Yep, Fred - comes with a pack of pictures, you choose which ones to display, how long to display it, sounds or no sounds, etc.

I'm not too interested in screen savers, but I would be interested in HL wallpaper. Can the images in a screen saver be converted to wallpaper fairly easily?

Can it do wallpaper? Sure. I'm looking at Mark Sherman's painting of Sea Girt on my screen as wallpaper.

Just checking on the interest level.

Easteregg? WTHIT?

An easteregg is something extra put into software by the authors. Here's a page describing some easter eggs in Win 95:

You mean you guys have not found the Collector Forums' EasterEgg yet? C'mon, it doesn't take that much effort to search for it! I found it, it's not hidden very well.

Would be nice if the screen saver comes with the ability to add some of your own personal pictures to it. Are you planning both a Mac & PC version?

Re: Interest in a Harbour Lights 'Screen Saver'? - 05/05/99 07:13 PM

Yes, Lamar, thanks for asking...

I demo'd it a bit at the Long Beach Expo and got lots of interest.

I'm awaiting the scans of Mark Shermans photos from HL's design firm. The software I have to set up self-running screen savers is PC only; not sure about Windows 3.1, but it works with Windows 95 and Windows 98.

It will be downloadable from HarbourLights.com or it have a nominal cost if you want it on a CD from Harbour Lights by mail.

We'll start with Mark Sherman's images, then offer Harbour Lights Photos and Lighthouse Photos in the future.

You'll be able to pick which of the 25+ images will be included, how long the image will show, the transition effect between images, and more.

And yes, I think you can include some of your own images, but I'll have to review the literature on that.

I'm shooting for March 17, but don't hold me to that.

Can't wait to see the finished product. Will it have the ability to add pictures with each new HL release and can we add our own photos.

Will there be GLOW screensavers series for our laptop? ;-)
