Saturday, July 28, 10AM - Quarterly meeting of the Long Island Chapter of the US Lighthouse Society at the Long Island Maritime Museum in West Sayville. A speaker from the museum will discuss local underwater archaeology (shipwrecks), and there will be updates on Chapter projects and other area lighthouse news.
Saturday, August 11, 10AM to 2PM - A barbecue at the Plum Island lighthouse to raise funds for its preservation. The day will commemorate the 226th anniversary of General Wooster's troops on Plum Island (near the lighthouse site) and the 212th anniversary of the signing of the Lighthouses Act by President Washington. $75 for members, $85 for nonmembers. Checks should be made out to "Long Island Chapter, USLHS" with "August Barbecue" written on the check and the lower left corner of the envelope, and mailed to: Long Island Chapter, USLHS; PO Box 21; Greenport, NY 11944.
