Second Annual Beacons of the Night Cruise

The last one was so much fun that we’re doing it again!
Join us for the fun on our second annual sunset/moonlight/lighthouse cruise on Saturday, September 29.

We’ll see several offshore lighthouses in the late afternoon, then see them casting their beams on the return to Greenport under a near-full moon. This will be a unique opportunity to see lighthouses as they were intended to be seen: at night. Lighthouses to be visited, depending on weather conditions, include Long Beach Bar (The Bug Light), Orient Point (The Coffee Pot), Plum Island, Little Gull Island, and Race Rock. If the night is clear, the light from the Montauk Point lighthouse and some Connecticut lighthouses may be visible on the return trip.

Long Island Chapter volunteers will be on board to narrate and answer your questions.

Cost is $65 for members, $75 for nonmembers, $35 for children under 12. Includes refreshments.

Boarding on the Peconic Star II begins at 4:15PM in Greenport. Reservations are required as space is limited. Call 631-645-5230, e-mail BeaconsCruise@LongIslandLighthouses.com
, or visit www.LongIslandLighthouses.com
for more information.

To make your reservations, mail a check for the appropriate amount to:
Long Island Chapter, USLHS
PO Box 852
Stony Brook, NY 11790-0852

Bob Muller and I ventured out Saturday afternoon to catch up with any folks who may not have gotten the message that the cruise had to be postponed. Let me tell you -- it was extremely windy in Greenport. In fact, there were whitecaps in the harbor! And cars coming over on the Shelter Island ferry were completely soaked, so the water must have been extremely rough.

Looking forward to the 13th!!
