The Hoosier Lighthousing Club’s next big project is to raise enough money to build a spiral stairway to the lantern room of Old Michigan City Lighthouse… We are holding two separate opportunity drawings to help meet that goal…

There will be four opportunities to purchase tickets for both drawings… our club’s upcoming Picnic, the Wacko Gathering in Chicago, the Summer Regional there and right here on line. The tickets will be $1 each or 6 for $5…

The window of opportunity for those who want to purchase through the internet will need to send their check including their address, phone number and email address to me by Monday June 24th and I will email back the numbers of your tickets.. The drawing will be held at the conclusion of the Regional in Chicago.

The first item is pictured below and was donated by a generous collector who wished to remain anonymous… It is a #47 New point Loma Lighthouse…

The second item is an original drawing by Digger of “Chicago Harbor”

These are separate opportunity drawings so you will need to specify which item it is that you are interested in or if both how much you want for each item…

Make out your check to…

Hoosier Lighthousing Club

and send it to the following address:

Two great prizes Paul! Any idea as to how much is needed for a new stairway?

A quick description of the sketch...

Handmade Japanese paper, Light tan in color with fiber to give the original a wonderful "antique" look. Larger than previous sketches, 14"x18" finished with a 16"x20" frame. For the first time I have added slight hints of color to a Pen & Ink that makes the lighthouse "jump" from the paper with depth. The sketch will be specially numbered SE 1/1 (Special Edition) No future original sketches will ever carry this number again so this is truly a very unique piece.

What Great prizes for this Opportunity Drawing. You can bet that MJ and I will have a check in the mail to you shortly (with hopes of winning the Chicago Harbor Painting). Not that the New Point Loma isn't a wonderful prize, but when you already have New Point Loma and there will be only one original of this "Steve Ervin" Pen & Ink........well you know what I would hope to win.

Remember folks the real winner here is Old Michigan City Lighthouse so send in your checks, step right up and buy your tickets now.

Good Luck to ALL!!

I just changed my post above to reflect the fact that I have just now been informed that the Club's will not be allowed to sell anything at the Regional.... not shirts, pins, drawing tickets... nothing. So I figure the next best opportunity to get support for our project at the lighthouse will be the Wacko Gathering.

Does this mean we will not have any games like last year? How about the famous ring toss? Our son would really love that! I thought the club booths were a great addition to the regional! Great fund raiser also!

No games. Information tables and socializing along with Bill signing lights. You will also get food (as opposed to munchies) since this is the only evening regional event.

While the club can't sell things AT the REGIONAL, we Wackos will still be around and will have our own gathering Friday evening. Bring on those tickets Hoosiers!

Since Sue and I are checking in on Wednesday night they will be at the Comfort Inn waiting... in fact Dave may have a few along with him on the invasion of Wisconsin....

We really need to get these stairs done so visitors to the lighthouse can get up in the lantern room, there's a real nice view, right Heather?

So how did those folks get up there Paul? Will these be replacement stairs to replicate the original?

The lantern room has really poor access (and that is a generous statement). Couple of stairways and ladders that are very narrow and at a very steep angle. The last steps are also spaced for a verrrry tall person.

Two very outstanding prizes. Can't decide which I would rather have. Guess I'll just have to buy tickets for both.

Digger, once again you have outdone yourself. What a fantastic drawing.

Great News!!!

There has been a change and all Clubs at the Regionals will be allowed to sell Opportunity tickets and other items to raise money for their lighthouse projects...

There will be guidelines the clubs are to follow but they will in fact be able to raise funds at their tables during the Regionals..

Harbour Lights will be contacting all of the clubs and informing them of this new policy and the guidelines for the upcoming Summer Regional!

I have started receiving checks and will pull tickets for them on Sunday and email the numbers to those who have mailed in their checks. Tomorrow is the Club's picnic at Old Michigan City and we are going to do some measuring for what we need to do to install some stairs...

Just about a week left before I leave for Rosemont... for those who are planning on getting tickets and not coming to the Regional, I need to receive the money by Tuesday the 25th of June so I can label your tickets and take them with me. I hope to have Bill do the drawing at the Regional on the 29th..

Remember that all of the proceeds from both drawings go towards the Old Michigan City spiral staircase project so that visitors will someday soon be allowed to climb them up to the lantern room of the Old Michigan City Lighthouse.

The check is in the mail then, Paul (not the famous last words on that subject!). Not sure if I'll be in Chicago or not. I may swing north after photographing in Door Country to do more photography.
