A little reminder and a few shots of where the money will go. Remember all the money goes to Matagorda. The Keepers keep nothing. Matagorda Looking great! They are planning on rebuilding the keepers house and turn it into a museum. Think of the potential check out some history and do a little shelling(none better on the Gulf). Here is another shot of Matagorda Lighthouse. Did anyone ever wonder what happen to old keepers? The Island is close to a 15 min ferry ride from Port O'Connor. The keepers had to bring everything from the mainland including water. All visitors must bring their own water when they visit or campout. I also suggest that you bring a snake bite kit, because of the large number of very mean snakes on the Island. Chuck

Here is a shot of Matagorda's 2nd lens located in Port Lavaca. There is an interesting story about the first lens. It is told that during the civil war it was buried on the island by the Confederate army. By doing this they prevented the Union army from using the lighthouse during the war. However, it has never been recovered. To this day it remains missing in action somewhere on the island. If you plan a visit to Matagorda Island plan ahead and take a shovel. You never can tell you might get lucky. But, you will have better luck in our drawing! ------------------ [This message has been edited by shiulong (edited 06-20-2002).] |
