Kristin, Mike Seewald, Bob Muller and I attended the "premiere party" for this show last night.

Watched a bit of the videotape this morning--and yes, Kristin, Bob fast-forwarded to the parts where he is interviewed! ;-) Looks like it will be an interesting program.

Dick Cavett does the narration and the show will focus on 17 of Long Island's Lighthouses (they did not include Stratford Shoal or Latimer Reef).

Diane,
I watched a lot of it last night when I got home - no fastforwarding though
I can't remember everything I saw so much though, I was sleepy...and they didn't go in any kind of geographical order so that's not going to help me tell you how far I got through it...it started with Montauk...I remember (not in order) North Dumpling, Cedar Island, Plum Island, Fire Island, Eatons Neck...maybe a few others
Anyway, I did stay up long enough to see Bob Muller talk about Plum Island.
It is actually a really good program - they really did a great job with the camera work - they all looked so beautiful.
Well, I'll try and watch the whole thing tonight...and give a better review after that.

OK...I watched the whole video last night. It was very good - watch it when it airs this weekend if you can!
If you don't get News 12 LI, see the following for more on Long Island's Lighthouses. http://www.lighthousekeepers.com/forums/Forum15/HTML/000260.html
The video is supposed to be for sale to benefit Long Island's lighthouses, so I'll keep you updated when I find out where you can get it.

Thanks for the info about the New 12 Lighthouse special on Nov 17 & 18.

I emailed my son and daughter on Long Island to tape it for me. I hope one of them remembers to do it. (That's why I asked both to do it.) I am looking forward to seeing it. I miss so many LI Lighthouse activites here in FL. The LI area is like being in lighthouse heaven. (I am a former Long Islander and miss it.)

I finally got to watch the videotape last night. I thought it was well done. Of course there were things I had hoped they would touch on that they didn't, but overall, I thought it was very good. Of course, they didn't talk about ALL of Long Island's lights (no Coney Island, Latimer Reef, or Stratford Shoal, and Shinnecock is mentioned only in passing).

The lighthouses that are shown are: Montauk, Eaton's Neck, Little Gull, Sands Point, Old Field, Fire Island, Plum Island, Cedar Island, North Dumpling, Execution Rocks, Horton Point, Long Beach Bar (Bug Light), Stepping Stones, Race Rock, Cold Spring Harbor (referred to as the Centre Island lighthouse in the show), Orient Point, and Huntington Harbor.

The videotape of the show is available for purchase (if you don't live in the LI area). Here's the blurb:

quote:
LONG ISLAND’S LIGHTHOUSES
Narrated by Dick Cavett. Discover the charm and beauty of Long Island‘s 17 Lighthouses. The new documentary “Long Island’s Lighthouses” premiers on Saturday, November 17 and Sunday, November 18 at 7:00pm on News 12 Long Island. You can help restore and preserve Long Island’s Beacons by purchasing the documentary on videotape for only $19.95 +2.95 shipping and handling. A portion of the proceeds of each tape goes to the preservation and restoration of Long Island’s Lighthouses. To order by mail, send your name, address, phone number, E-mail address, number of tapes you'd like and the amount you are enclosing to the following:
CinDel Productions
P.O. Box 556
Woodbury, NY 11797

I haven't heard what groups will be receiving the proceeds from the sale of the videotape.

To DMancini,
Thank you for the information about how and where to get the "Long Island Lighthouses" tape. I am very anxious to see it. As a former Long Islander, I have seen several of those lights but I am looking forward to the video presentation.

Joanie,
Hope they remember to tape it for you! It's one you won't want to miss! If not, they can always by you a copy of the video for a holiday gift!
