The Wacko 2000 Pin sample is finally here:

In this scan the edges of the pin look kind of ‘rough’ most likely due to my lack of scanning expertise. The pin will have two military clutch pin backs attached (it’s a pretty big pin). The Wacko 2000 Pin will be accompanied by an overview of the history of Morris Island Light written by Barbara Hupp (ladylightkeeper).

The price is $12.00 each which covers the costs of the pin itself, and all expenses (bubble padded envelopes, postage, etc.). This should generate a substantial contribution to the Save The Light organization on behalf of Morris Island Light.

We’re facing an order deadline, too from the pin manufacturer’s rep. If we don’t place our order with him by the deadline of April 5th, we won’t be able to place it until middle to late May. Place your pin order by April 5th and we’ll be certain to order enough for everyone who makes the deadline. We plan to order enough for everyone who orders after the deadline too, but since the quantity at that point in time is a guesstimate, those orders placed after the deadline will be shipped on a first-come, first-served basis. The rep. for the pin manufacturer estimates six weeks for delivery.

All Wackos should be receiving email ordering forms from Darlene within the next two days or so. If you don’t receive a form or if you become a Wacko after this date you may request an emailed form from me at: lamar@gs.verio.net .

I love this pin!
Great job and great cause.
I suspect each year we will have a new WACKO pin for another "help-restoration" project? Or will each year be for Morris Island?
I hope people will wear their WACKO pins at events etc . and hope that will create more people interested in adding to the forum and chats.
Again great job and thanks to all the folkes involved!!

I would like to say thank you to everyone who had something to do with getting this project together. The pin looks great, and I am sure it will look even better in person.

Even through the controversy that surronded this project, it is good to know that because of something that started, then grew here in the forums, Morris Island will be getting help for restoration.

Remember too, you don't have to just by a pin to help Morris Island. You can also send donations directly to the group responsible for its restoration: Save The Light, Inc.

Their website is:
http://www.savethelight.org

Thanks again everyone!

The original idea was to vote each year and help a different lighthouse each year. But, get started earlier this time!

I want to thank Lamar for helping me on this Wacko pin project. He has really done a tremendous amount of work in the background that you people will never “see”. Please help him and all of us by promptly sending in your order, check, or electronic payment (please read the upcoming order form carefully which Darlene will be personally e-mailing out to all of you) so that we can get this final order off to the pin rep to meet the deadline by April 5.

Lamar still has a lot of work ahead of him, doing paperwork, printing up the history of the pin and Morris Island, packaging up the pins when they come in, and shipping them off to you. If we all lived in one city as a “club”. we could all share the work load, but alas ----

I also want to again thank: Darlene for the e-mail notification procedures; Lamar, Henry Hupp, and John Chidester for working on the various design proposals until the one you see scanned here of John’s was finalized; Rod Watson for refining the details in the design (Rod, did you use Adobe Photoshop?); and Paul Brady for his photographs of the HL sculptures of Morris Island Then and Now.

And, of course, a big thank you to Kim Andrews for letting us use their design which has brought about this very unique pin.

And this IS a very unique pin. The pin making process used preserved the integrity and fine details which you will see in the buildings themselves and truly made use of Paul’s photographic image. We are seeing the actual sculptures, not just a graphic design of an outline of a lighthouse. For historical purposes and to display this pin alongside your HL pieces, this style of pin is ideal. Please keep this technique in mind when we ask you shortly to start sending in names for next year’s Wacko pin --- a photo of an HL sculpture will result in this same photo detail on your pins.

To those who are close to 50 posts, keep on posting, as you have about a week to qualify for an “absolute” order. Some extra pins will be ordered for those who will “graduate” a little further into spring, but when they are gone, that will be it. We cannot re-order pins.

I look forward to Wackos ordering two pins each. That will create a nice over-all donation check to Morris Island.

Again, I thank all of you for YOUR part in this project. Without you, it would not exist.

Ladylightkeeper, Barbara

WOW !!! It's beautiful. I was a little apprehensive about what it would look like but IT'S BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!

Great Work !!! I just finished printing my form.

FYI, the rough looking edges are just an effect from the glare of the scanner light reflecting on the shiny metal. There's not much one can do about it. Your scan was fine.

The pin is great! Can't wait to get it. One more way for the Wackos to identify each other on lighthouse tours, cruises etc.

A great big thanks to Lamar, Barbara, Darlene and all who worked so hard to bring this project to completion.

Now all we need is Lamar's zip code so we can mail the checks!

I'd say the pin company did a great job of reproducing the artwork sent to them:

You already know the final pin (right) is a bit difficult to display clearly due to it's shinyness.
