Am a bit confused (what's new?) about all these "Point Loma's". If HL105 is "Old" Point Loma, HL 604(REXM) and HL 605(REXA-mini) are "New" Point Loma and HL 409 is Point Loma neither old nor new ---- what is the difference? Do they look alike? If not, do they depict the actual lighthouse in different time periods? Not having any of the above and not being familiar with the lighthouse I don't have a clue. Just wondering....
Actually, posts in other threads got me thinking about new collectors trying to amass every HL made, plus variations. It would appear that this is getting to be near impossible. Just trying to figure out what exactly you're looking at is quite challenging! Unless some of the really rare pieces happen to turn up at a garage sale, it would seem highly unlikely that one could reasonably expect to acquire them all. Whether my pieces are green or brown, my waves are green or blue is of little consequence. While I appreciate the efforts of those of you die-hard wackos in your search for a complete collection, I guess it's just not my thing. I would although someday like to have a Portland Head. As the Boston Harbor and SE Block Island Glows have been re-released perhaps the Portland Head is coming along soon? Maybe Fred can consult his crystal ball???

Hey Mombo, you're learning more than you think. The questions you are asking result from you obtaining a base of knowledge, and therefore are asking about the next level. Realizing everything does not appear to be as it seems is a important step, which will save you a lot of heartache and money.

If you go to
http://www.harbourlights.com/default.htm and pick "Collecting" then "Catalog" -
you can find almost every HL produced. Thank you St John (Editorial: 'Good luck in the Sweet 16 !!')

"As far as finding every HL"
You'd be surprised how many you can find and buy if you're Patient, Resourceful, and Persistent Yes, you will need some bucks.
But maybe not as much as you think. Save some money and be on the lookout.

I can't believe how many discoveries I've made. I once had the same opinion as you. This was all changed last month.

As for the other questions you ask, I'll leave them up to the professionals or you can use my above reference and learn yourself.

Good luck, enjoy and do have fun!

Welcome to the next level of collecting, PEE WIT.

HL105 depicts the FIRST Point Loma Lighthouse that sits on the bluff guiding ships to San Diego Bay. Since the harbor at San Diego is frequently fogged in, the lighthouse couldn't be seen above the fog, so they built the "New" Point Loma lighthouse down at the water's edge. Since the "New" one was "New Point Loma", the other one became popularly known as "Old" Point Loma. However, it's name is correctly "Point Loma". The label on the HL105 says "Old Point Loma", but the Flag says "Point Loma". On the GLOW version (HL409), I believe both the label and flag say "Point Loma CA".

As for the other questions on whether it's possible to amass a complete collection today, I'll leave that to those in the "By The Numbers" Forum

John

This was *exceptional* response time! You folks are great! Thanks so much for your kind words, your answers and the pictures, Paul. Saved me from click/clacking around the HL site. You're all so clever. I'm still stumbling around the PC. Maybe when Y2K comes round I won't be functioning at all and I'll just float away........

"Emergency". Nobody told me it was an emergency. If I'd known that, I'd took care of it RIGHT away.

Come on John, When it's a question concerning HL, it's always an Emergency. And of course this is the 911 line.
