Being a long-time resident of Virginia (but born & raised in Michigan) I have a love for both Lightships, however, there's no doubt about it....the birthing design that the planners did up in Port Huron was ingenious. When you approach the vessel from the park-side you get the impression that "she's" in the water, but, without the maintenance headaches associated with actually being in the water over the long term. 'A very nice "setting"!
