There's a Holiday Inn Express on the north side of Kill Devil right on the beach road. Also some nice restaurants for seafood just North of the HI on the beach road. My view out my window was the Wright Brother Memorial.
Three years ago there was a ferry from north of Currituck to VA but I never took it. I don't have any specifics.
