Thanks for the tips, everyone. I do have a question...Should I start at the south part of NC and work my way north into Virginia? Seems if I do it that way, I could get to Bodie Island at sunset. Is there a Holiday Inn or something near Bodie? Also, is there a way into Virginia by going north from Currituck?

Is Cape Charles close enough that I could shoot it with a 300mm zoom? I shot the photo of Morris Island with a 24-120mm lens, and cropped it. Is it around the same distance as Morris Island?
