I always budget 1.5 to 2 hours to get from Bodie to Currituck. And another hour to get back to US 158 in Kitty Hawk. Take Judy's advice and go up there early in the morning before the tourist hit the road. The grounds are open and you can get a lot of no-heads in the way photos. Also make sure you walk out on the dock and get photos from there back over the water and marsh/scrub pines toward the light.
