Bob,

I had a similar problem with the photos I took of Alki Point in Washington.

The picture from the boat is both great and not so great. I got a nice shot with Mt Rainear overshadowing the Lighthouse but becaus ethe area around the Lighthouse is so built up it doesn't have the same effect.

If I took the houses, etc built around the Lighthouse out of the print I lose too musch of the mountain effect.

Add to that you can only get a partial shot of the lighthouse from the street side without having an invitation onto the grounds.

You can get some nice shots of the Lighthouse itself from the boat- just not the most dramatic ones with the mountain.

That's just the way it goes sometimes. The Lighthouses are either in the middle of nowhere or because of changes over the years smack dab in the middle of things that just don't ad to the ambience of the shot.
