Chicago Harbor Lighthouse was built on the end of North Pier in 1893.In 1917 it was moved to the breakwater. The buildings on either side were built after the relocatiion.

Chicago's 1859 skeletal tower light was moved to Rawley Point WI when the 1893 tower was built. (Too tall to be effective as thick smoke from steamships & industry often obscured it.)

The New Point Loma light was built at the 1893 Columbian Exposition in Chicago to show off the Lighthouse Service's innovations. The 3rd order lens that was supposed to be NPL's was put in the Chicago North Pier light.
