The Maine Lighthouse Museum will be hosting a series of five consecutive lectures on Saturdays, starting on September 21st and running thru October 19th. Each lecture will reference the history of the U.S. Coast Guard from the early Revenue Cutter Service, the U.S. Lifesaving Service, life on a Lightship and the lives of the keepers and their families living at isolated light stations.
On September 28th at 2 pm James Nelson, historical author and education coordinator at Maine Maritime Museum will present the early Revenue Cutter Service and its participation in the War of 1812, along with the engagement of the USS Enterprise and the HMS Boxer off the coast of Pemaquid Point. Nelson will relate with interest the details of this naval battle. ADMISSION TO THE LECTURE IS JUST $5 per person.
The Maine Lighthouse Museum is located at One Park Drive in Rockland and parking is available at the Trade Winds Motor Inn across the street.
