Another wonderful idea!
This is a actual story in the latest Lighthouse Digest Magazine...I think this is a lighthouse in desperate need. When looking at the photo, its amazing its still standing.

Funds are still needed to save the Grand Harbour Lighthouse on Grand Manan Island,Canada. In may of 1999,we declared this as the "MOST Endangered Lighthouse in North America."During the first fund raising period,we stated that we had a matching dollar for dollar grant that expired on June 30th 1999,and requested donations sent to The American Lighthouse Foundation.
Donations totalling $5820.00 were recieved. The American Lighthouse Foundations Board of Directors pledged an additional 4000.00 from its general fund, bringing the total to 9820.00.With the matching grant, that brought the total to 19,640.00.UNFORTUNETLY.since June 30th only 170.00 in donations have been sent in.
Since then,a number of people have come forward with a desire of forming a Friends of Grand Harbour. The group has a number of volunteer crafts people, willing to do much of the labor and even a company that is willing to donate the doors and windows.
As of press time,a number of legal snags developed, including a liability problem should anyone working on the lighthouse get injured. The possibility arose that the owner of the island could get sued. This, along with some other minor problems have delayed stabilization of the structure, however, work is expected to start by press time.(end)

The picture of the lighthouse is worth a thousand words. That would be my pick.
