Made it to North Carolina for a small vacation and we were staying at a Days Inn in Kill Devil Hills and found a brand new life saving station that had opened this spring of 2007. It is called "Ocean Bay LSS" on S. VA Dare Rd. It is where the life guards keep their gear and hold training exercises.
We were there while they were having their life guard competition on the beach! It was pretty cool. Thought that everyone would want to know that the tradition still lives on...somewhat. They are still saving lives. They just don't have a Lyle Gun! wink And at least they are keeping the name of Life Saving Station and the building looks like one of old. It was built brand new...no rennovations. I'll try to snap a few pics while we are here...
