BEAR ISLAND LIGHTHOUSE, ME. The first lighthouse was constructed in 1839. A new brick tower was built off one end of the original keeper’s residence in 1852-‘53. The light station was totally rebuilt in 1889. The present light station consists of the 33'-tall lighthouse with an attached workroom, the detached 1½-story, gambrel-roofed house, barn (1889), a stone oil house (1905), and a boathouse.
