Yes it would only have been a 3 mile hike if the gate had not been locked. We had to add another 2 or so miles to the normal trip. The worst part is the last 2 miles was straight up the side of a mountain!!

The path is not that bad. Most of it is up above the beach. There a a few areas that are soupy, a couple of places are sandy, and there was one deep creek to cross. Fortunately someone had placed a board across it and we stayed out of the water.
