You got it! Our water taxi captain - out of Port Washington - has been to the lighthouse. I asked if he thought the stories of the British tying prisoners to the rocks and letting the tide drown them was true. He said the old timers still talk about finding manacles there. He had a great story about Fire Island lighthouse saving his life when he was a kid - on a boat lost in the fog and trying to find the inlet.
