I'm sure this isn't as interesting to others as it is to me....but the LV-189 was built at the Defoe Shipbuilding Co. (on the Saginaw River, in Bay City, MI) and was commissioned on the day that I was born. Ironically, Defoe, which no longer exists, was located approximately 25 miles from where I was born, as well.
