Somebody, somewhere mentioned that Tarrytown looked to be the best of the Hudson River HL's coming out this year. Is there a picture yet? I can't find one.

Inside the new "Legacy", there are some good pictures of the "Hudson River Series", Tarrytown included. Hopefully, yours will arrive soon, if it hasn't already.

Thanks, Todd. Looked right at it and couldn't remember. Sorta like Baltimore with a walkway. Must be that extra year making it tougher all the time. Lamar, you having the same problem, ha, ha....?

Saw Saugerties today for the first time and it's gorgeous! As I can't afford to buy all of them I have to start being a little more selective. Too many white & reds make for a pretty dull display. Maybe I should take all those buckets of leftover paints with me the next time I go to New England and jazz up a few lighthouses?

In my opinion, Tarrytown is the best light in the Hudson River Series. I think the walkway and smoke-pipe really make the piece great.

I visited Tarrytown lighthouse a month
ago. I was so excited to see the Hudson
River series in the Legacy.
However, my son pointed out to me that the upper railing was missing on the model as compared with my photos.
I mentioned this to Debi @ HL during
a call on a unrelated matter. She was very interested and asked me to mail the pictures which I did.

In answer to your questions, yes, Harbour Lights is very concerned with a piece being "correct". Just recently, Chatham, from the Lady Lightkeeper series, was retired early due to the piece not being historically accurate. Most often it is the collectors who will spot an error if one is present, and report it to Harbour Lights.

In regards to the upper railing on Tarrytown, often in early promo photographs of new releases, the lighthouse used is an "Artist Proof". These pieces are close to what is going to be released, but not quite. The metal work is often not present on the piece when the photo is taken, but will be present on the final product.

Picture of Tarrytown in the Spring "99"issue of Lighthouse Depot. This looks like another winner from Harbour Lights.
The Hudson-Athens,NY & Esopus Meadows, NY lighthouses are also featured. The Hudson-Athens piece looks to be the best of the bunch.

Do we know yet if Tarrytown will have the upper railing?????

The pieces that get photographed for the brochures and ads are often pre-production versions. They may be a 'paint sample' which is created to show painters how the finished piece will look.

The railings are usually pewter (fences like Baltimore Harbour are photo-etched metal). These items are manufactured later.

So the photographer may end up picturing a piece without the railings. Or, they may find that a railing from another piece can be positioned on the new one. The pattern of the railing may change from the photographed one. Compare this recent promotional photo with the piece Paul scanned from the newsletter and you'll note there are two railings on this one plus the railing at the water line:

Hi John,

I was glad to see the picture of the updated Tarrytown light. I was one of the people several months ago that noted the lack of an upper railing and base vertical ironwork. I sent photos to HLs. Kim's letter was rather vague about the possible additions. Now it looks much truer to life.

Tarrytown is only 10 minutes west of me.
I also found out this summer that I can see Great Captains from our beach club on Long Island Sound. Now I just have to figure a way to visit it. So I can't wait for Tarrytown to arrive at my local dealers & I have a Gr. Capts. on its way to me from a marketplace purchase.

Donna - the problem probably is that the thread is not getting 'refreshed' by your browser. After you post your message, and get taken back to the thread, click on the 'Refresh' or 'Reload' on the browser.

If you still can't see your addition, hold down the SHIFT key and click on Refresh, Reload.

If that doesn't work, I'm stumped.
