I just received my Monomoy Point today in the mail from my dealer and I was giving it a once over for damage and I happened to notice something that I need to ask about. As your looking down from the top on the boat between the buildings there is a thin white line that is to the right of the boat. Is that the mast to the boat or something else? It is about 1" long.
The next thing that I was noticing this evening was my Portland Head. After examining my Portland Head for a responce to the post in the Secondary Market Forum, I noticede something for the 1st time. Looking from the side of the lighthouse that has the flag, the bottom window on the lefthand side of the mainhouse with the curved entrance door(opening) does not have the window sill painted green. The sill is white. Does anybody else have this or is it an error by the person painting this piece? Did they just miss painting the sill or is this like all the rest of the pieces and it's supposed to be white? The serial number is 4408.
And this is the final question. I have 3 Gray's Harbors in my collection. One of them is the standard Gray's Harbor with the window in the top part of the tower lining up with the door at the bottom of the tower and the small door on the catwalk level is 45 degrees counterclockwise to the window and main entrance door. The second Gray's Harbor is a variation with the window in the top part of the tower 45 degrees counterclockwise to the main tower door and the small door on the catwalk 90 degrees counterclockwise. This is the typical variation that I have read about. However, my third Gray's Harbor is a variation to the variation I believe. The window is again 45 degrees out of sync, but this time the window is rotated 45 degrees clockwise and the small door leading on to the catwalk is straight up from and in a direct line with the main tower door. Does anybody else out there have this clockwise rotation of the top part of the tower or do I have the only one? The serial number on this piece is 0834. I would sure like to know if I have the equivilent to the missing railing on the Michigan City Christmas Piece.
Any information on the observations of Monomoy Point white line, the Portland Head white window sill and Gray's Harbor tower rotated 45 degrees clockwise would be greatly appreciated.

The white line on Monomoy Pt. has been present on every piece I've seen. I was also guessing that it was a mast, or some other piece of the boat.

I have 2 Portlands and both of them have the window sill in question green... the green is a slightly differently shade on the Canadian compared to the green on the Malaysian version.
The Monomoy Point line you mentioned... I thought maybe was a fishing pole... I would think that a mast which I also considered it might be would be a little thicker...
Gray's Harbor question... Most of the variations are the standard one of, one turn off, but I also have a Gray's Harbor variation where the door to the lantern room is postioned 180 degrees wrong, on the opposite side of where it should be. I have friend who has another variation where the door was yet in another position...

Thanks for responding to my questions. I'll call HL and see if the white line is a mast or fishing pole. I guess on the Portland Head they just didn't paint the window sill because of overlooking it. I wonder just how many different variations there are to Gray's Harbor. This might be a question for another time. Thanks again.

I went to well over 200 stores looking for the variations, when Fred first brought it to everyone’s attention and all of them but the one 180 degree one that I have, were the 1/8 turn variation. I still look every time I find one sitting on the shelf in a store. I also found that there was less than 1 variation in every 20 that I looked at. I always asked to look at the ones they had in the storeroom. But having said that…. the potential is for 7 different variations since the other way of assembly, of course is the correct way.

Well Rich, you know they recommend repainting houses every 5 to 7 years. Maybe it's time to pull out the scraper and a can of paint? LOL
