Does any one know if the stamp folder to be included with the first 3,000 American Shoal sculptures will be the same as with the original four? Rember, it was in error in that it said the stamps were issued in 1989. The correct date is April 26, 1990.

How will the distribution be handled? Will all dealers get some sculptures with stamps? Is it possible that some dealers may not get the stamps included?

Lets keep track of this. How about posting a reply when they come in across the country as to whether or not the stamps are included. Might as well keep track on the SN to see what the actual cutoff for the supply of stamps is.

I am waiting for my dealer in Miami to call me and let me know when they come in. He has had his order comfirmed.

About 3,000 Stamps in Folders will accompany the first 3,000 American Shoals.

Approximately 2,200 are committed for auto-ships.

Oh, how I am waiting patiently for this light to arrive in my dealer's shop. Since I get the autoship to her store, I can say yeah! I get a stamp too.

I'm looking forward to receiving my American Shoal. It will certainly receive a place of honor in one of my curios.

There may be a few collectors who don't know what all this is about a 'stamp' that comes with American Shoals. Here's a link that shows all five of the 1990 lighthouse stamps. HLs has already done four of the five and included the stamps in some number of the boxes. American Shoals has been eagerly anticipated by everyone who has the others.

http://lighthousestampsociety.homepage.com/webstamps/uns2474a.jpg

And if the stamps whet your appetite for yet another way to collect lighthouse stuff, check this link for a look at the First Day Covers of the set.

http://www.unicover.com/EA5TASS8.HTM

Poke around the Unicover site and you can find the FDCs for each individual stamp and all of the other USPS lighthouse stamps too.

Enjoy!

Nice picture of the origional stamp folder. I have the same. But as I stated in my origional post - it is in error - the stamps were issued in 1990. I am still wondering if they will correct that mistake on the ones they send out with American Shoal?

Thanks for the picture Paul.
Called my dealer today and they still haven't recieved American Shoal yet.
They do have a complete set of the origional stamps series with matched numbers. Or should I say they did! They're on their way to Arizona now.

Hold on their Dale...

The 'original' stamp series was 4 pieces introduced in 1991.

I think you're referring to the 1995 Great Lakes Stamp Set. These were shipped as matched numbers. I don't believe the 1991's were.

That would be some find if it was the 1991 pieces!!!!

You're probably right John. I believe she did say Marblehead was included with the 5 piece set. I didn't ask what the others were. This dealer didn't start selling Harbour Lights until late 92. Anyway since I have bought so much from her she gave them to me at a good price.

What were the origional 4?

Hey Pauly - didn't you get the green water version of the Am Shoal stamp? Supposedly only the first 732 before they fixed it.

Saint Tim - obviously they caught the color thing and changed it. We're number 853, and we held our stamp up to the screen to compare the green with Saint Paul's. Our water is definitely way more blue. Actually, it's more dramatic than the green. So even though we have the stamp of lesser value (think what those first 732 are going to be worth someday! Yikes!), we like it better.

Great post on this...
Can't wait to get this LH. Does anyone know why they limited it to the first 3,000 to include the stamps?

Before this snowballs...

The stamp water color thing (green v. blue) is a joke. Stamps are USPS legal issue. Y&A had no control over the water color. Even if there was a water color change by the USPS, it would be unrelated to the edition number of the HL. The image that Paul posted was doctored to go along with Tim's jest.

When the stamps were purchased in 1990 by Harbour Lights, they came in a stamp booklet with all five images. (See Paul's image above of the five stamps.)

In 1991, these panes of stamps had to be divided into the five individual stamps so that those individual stamps could be inserted into the glassine protector and attached to the folder of the four 1991 releases.

The remaining individual stamps of American Shoal were put into storage. Nobody wants the job of counting out 3,000 or more indvidual stamps.

Kim has said 'at least 3,000' American Shoal will arrive with stamp. It could be more, it depends on how many stamps they actually have.

Any of you philatelists know what that one American Shoal stamp is worth today?

I got my American Shoal yesterday! Great piece! Why does the flag have the number 10,000 on it? Is this a mistake? I thought there were only going to be 6500 made?

American Shoal apparently was approved for production when HL expected it to be a 10,000 edition size piece.

However, in 1999 a decision was made to vary the edition sizes and thus a decision was reached for American Shoal should be 6,500.

So are all American Shoals going to have 10,000 on the flag? This is very misleading. Are they going to produce some with 6500 on the flag? Would be interested in hearing the real story.

Got my American Shoal today from my dealer in south Miami, FL. It was interested to note that three pages of the stamp folder were the same as with those issued with the origionll four. The last page was different. However, it still giver the issue date of the lighthouse stamps as 1989. They were issued on April the 26th, 1990. Thought after nine years they would have corrected this error.

Got mine today, Green water stamp. Also have a hard time understanding the decision making process. Made with 10,000 Flag and then changing to 6500. Seems like the decision had the horse backing the wagon through the river again.
PS Flag #914 with green water stamp.

Harbour Lights had planned to release American Shoal last year, probably mid year. That is why the year is 1999© on the flag.

This is just a guess on my part but I suspect the bases (water portion) were already done and the hold up was probably in the tower. Then when Harbour Lights made the decision to reduce edition sizes and rather than destroy the bases already done, go ahead and use them. This would save both Harbour Lights and the Collector(you) money. This is just my theory but I bet I am real close…….

As for the folder still having the date error, I suspect that these were already produced… including the American Shoal stamp and the stamps inserted in the folders at the same time as the West Quoddy, Hatteras, Admiralty, and Sandy Hook stamps.

Nice link Art. Thanks. Were the origional Stamps put in CH1 or CH2 or both? Did all of the origionals get 3000 like American Shoal?

I now have the Great Lakes Stamp Set. I guess I'll have to start looking for the others to complete the stamp series. If I can find them and afford them when I do find them.

What are the first four going for these days?

No Stamp Folder here in CT (probably due to the fact that there is NO American Shoal). I stopped by my dealer again (yesterday) to check.

Thanks for the links to the stamp sites Rick & Art. Very interesting.

As you can see the cancellation date on the first day issue cover is April 26, 1990 just as Harry stated at the beginning of this thread.

The correct spelling of the location is American Shoal. That is the way it is on nautical charts. Therefore the light is American Shoal. Harbour Lights is correct the U.S. Postal service was wrong.
