Spoke with Carolyn this evening, and she mentioned about 100 LLOM's available for purchase!

After shipping out the LLOM's that have been paid for, the Society will be selling to local lighthouse lovers. wink

If you haven't purchased yours, give her a call NOW! smile

The mail person, left a box today with my Pointe Aux Barques' smile - WOW, Carolyn was pretty fast with that... AND the piece looks great!

Quote:
Tony says the numbering on the bottom will be handwritten including the production count which IS limited to 300 pieces. So expect it to be "1/300, 2/300" etc.
The number is written on the bottom as xxx, but NOT xxx / 300. The number is also written on the outside of the box like LE's. The anniversary backstamp is very well done and adds to the uniqueness. The piece is assigned a regular LL number (LL283).

I'm very happy to add this to the Great Lakes collecton, and may even be the first to do so applaud

They are on the way folks, so keep an eye out for USPS.

Remember that the LL will probably not be released until January or so, thus no image on the HL web site.

Not a current Little Light - no photos on HarbourLights.com. Paul will get his from PABLS and I'm sure he'll provide us with a great photo!

I'm awaiting mine and should it arrive before Paul gets his, I'll post a medium quality image!

Mine arrived about 30 minutes ago:

IMHO, it's a nice little piece that will net about $3,000 for the Pointe Aux Barques Lighthouse Society. Money that will help interpret this important Lake Huron Lighthouse and add to the community pride of the 'Thumb' of Michigan.

Still a few score left to sell. Give Carolyn a call at 989-428-3035. Leave your name and number if you get their answering machine. Price is $27 each including Priority Mail shipping.

As of today, 101 pieces still remain.

Carolyn says she expects to sell them out before the 150th Anniversary celebration August 4-5.

The locals haven't yet discovered it as it is available only at the gift 'tent' which currently is only there and open on Saturdays. In July and August the sales tent will be open on Saturdays and Sundays.

She is very happy with how sales are going and with Harbour Lights.

"Tony was Fabulous! And so easy to work with!" according to Carolyn.

(Honest - you probably think I'm making this up just to make Tony feel good, right?)

If you are there August 4 or 5, you'll have a rare chance to climb the tower. No charge for the event. There is a dinner Saturday evening in a tent on the grounds that there is a charge for.

Carolyn called me this evening...(we are both Michiganders)!

She mentioned that there are 97 LLOM's available for purchase, and the gift shop at Point Aux Barques will be opening on June 30 and expects the LLOM will sell out due to offering this light to the locals!!!!

IF you have not purchased this light as of today, or know a non connected collector, give them the phone #989-428-3035
and info, and CALL Carolyn !

She also stated that she has had a positive experience with all of us, and she has received praise from her efforts too!

Good job everyone!!! applaud

The Pointe Aux Barques Lighthouse Society will be receiving two Artist's Proofs from Harbour Lights.

One will be of the special Pointe Aux Barques Little Light. It is the ONLY AP made of this piece.

The other will be an AP of the new GLOW version of Whitefish Point MI.

Details aren't worked out yet on how these will be sold, but the group is considering either a silent auction during the August 4 event OR selling it via eBay.

I've said to them that the most money will probably be made if Harbour Lights collectors have a shot at purchasing it rather than someone who happens to attend the dinner that evening.

Let's hear from some of you - would you like to have a chance to purchase one of these two special AP pieces? Would an eBay sale be best or what's your idea on how the PABLS can 'maximize' their income from these pieces for the benefit of preserving Pointe Aux Barques Lighthouse?

Would the average "eBayer" know enough to know the real value of pieces like these? I doubt it.

A silent auction seems like a good idea to me. At lleast then the bidders are folks who know what rare thing they are about to buy.

But then an auction at a certain kind of dinner has been known to raise amazing amounts, provided the auctioneer knows his/her stuff.

Two words: deep pockets

We all have observed some serious money changing hands in the names of charities and HL collecting. They could maximize their income on these pieces if the right people have a shot at them.

I consider eBay as a bargain hunter's stomping grounds. A silent auction utilizing mail-in bids may be the best bet on this. It will probably at least double what would be collected via an eBay auction.

What about a raffle with a set amount of chances. The total amount of the chances would be what PABLS society would like to make from these.

Gives everyone a chance, not just those with big bucks.

What you are describing is not a silent auction, but a sealed bid auction.

A silent auction is conducted by people adding their name to a list along with a bid that 'tops' the previous bid.

A sealed bid implies that anyone can submit a bid by a specific deadline when all bids are opened and the highest bid is accepted.

In the silent auction case, subsequent bidders are motivated by the ability to buy the piece for a known amount over the previous bidder.

To participate in the silent auction, you need to attend the event which will be about 120 miles north of Detroit and cost you $30 for the dinner. How many of those attending will know the true value of a 1/1 AP? Of course not knowing the true value might cause some participants to overbid.

To sell it on eBay, you would need to do publicity while the piece is for sale -- on these Collector Forums for example, or AT the dinner event (with the auction to close the next day) or even in the local weekly paper.

Some see eBay as a place where bottom feeders buy. It's also where sellers without knowledge set low prices, not knowing what they really have.

EBay also allows you to set a reserve price. If the piece doesn't bring the reserve, then you can sell it in some other way.

Some will recall that a number of HL102 originals and Coquille Rivers have brought strong prices on eBay. And you don't have to be in Port Hope MI on August 4 to buy it.

The sealed bid auction would be my mid-choice, but to be fair, it needs to be conducted by MAIL, not eMail. All bids are to be opened at the same time. There is not 'build-up' by announcing along the way what the current high bid is.

Loon was posting while I was composing. The raffle has some benefits. For example, the drawing could be held only after a set number of tickets are sold. So if you wanted to raise $500 from the AP Pointe Aux Barques, you could sell 100 $5 tickets or 500 $1 tickets. The ticket buyers know their odds of winning going in.

However, it sets the maximum you could earn from the piece. It MIGHT have sold for more (or might have sold for less) in other ways. And if you can't dispose of all the planned tickets, you have some obligation to close the ticket sales by a certain date.

One variation is that you can sell all the tickets you can between now and a future date. Might be 1,000 $1 tickets sold. The buyers don't know their odds in this variation.

Do you remember the live Silent Auction that the Houston Light Keepers held for the golden Eddystone? The eddystone went for $4,000
Bidders with computers could check a website and follow the live action and made bids by email or phone.

My #273 only shows the date of 18 on the tower. I can see a little bit of the 5. There is like a little piece of foreign material/or extra matter painted over that covers the majority of the 5 and the 7. Did anyone else get one like this?

What I remember was no audio and the video was down a lot. This kind of technology is way beyond what the PABLS can do or would do in such a rural area.

The $4K for a gold was at the peak of gold prices. We're talking about an AP of a Little Light.

The celebration is this weekend. I think Roger was going to try to attend. Hopefully he will get some pictures if he does.

Does anyone know what the society decided to do about the AP of their special Little Light? I know several ideas and options were discussed earlier in this thread.

Foound my own answers.

The Pointe Aux Barques folks will have a silent auction for both the Little Light AP and the Whitefish GLOW AP this coming Saturday. Here is the information I received:

Quote:
Artist proof - Pointe Aux Barques Limited Edition Little Light
Artist proof - Whitefish Point GLOW

The Pointe Aux Barques silent auction is Saturday, August 4, 2007.
We will accept bids by phone between 4 - 6 p.m. on August 4.

The main number to call is 989-550-9716.
Back up phone numbers are 810-877-2177 or 810-730-9151
Make sure you talk to a person - DO NOT LEAVE A MESSAGE!

When you call, you will be given a bidder number, we will need your name, phone number, the amount you want to bid for a specific lighthouse.

If you are the highest bidder, we will call you back that evening for your credit card number and address for shipping.
