What happened to the "late January" for American Shoal and "early February" for the Boston Figurines?

If Y&A has a weak spot, it's in bringing stuff to market on-time. Just a little longer. Heard in tonight's chat that AmShoal is expected to go out next week. Ship John Shoal may be with it.

In defense of HL's record of 'on-time shipping':

Let's keep in mind the complicated process of taking a sculpture and getting it into full production half a globe away, getting the items inspected, packed and sent via container ship to El Cajon. Then to unload containers, break down the products and repack and ship them to about 2,000 dealers.

Now multiply that by 4-5 for the number of LEs under deadline for shipping.

HL has been hesitant in the past about saying just when an item will ship. And sometimes, despite a lot of quality checks along the way, a whole shipment gets trashed because they don't meet the high standards.

I liken this to those who criticize the Space Shuttle program for so many 'launch delays'. If I were riding that shuttle, I'd sure want to be 110% certain things were correct and within limits rather than rush to launch because they are 'behind schedule'.

Looks to me like deliveries for 2000 are pretty much on schedule:

You missed your calling John. Bradley and Bush need you right now! LOL.

After hearing all the past stories of HL destroying mass quantities of "sub quality" pieces, I haved learned to be a little more patient to guarantee the quality we all expect.

Well put, St. John. I know some politicos who could use your talents, too.

For me, the sure quality is more than worth the wait. I appreciate HL not taking shortcuts or lowering their standards for the sake of making an arbitrary deadline. If only some software vendors would take a page from HL's playbook...

KT - please don't think any one is picking on you for the question. It's a very valid statement.

I just wanted to bring into consideration what can happen twixt concept and putting the product on the shelves nationwide.

Yep, they're worth waiting for, always. I've just come to expect them a little later than originally anticipated. No problem with that here.

Art,
You know the reason the new lights are so long in getting to you is that they have to wait for the mules to get up enough energy to make the trip. (And, find a mule skinner willing to venture into the vast unknown.)

OK John. You stick up for Harbour Lights. When do you think I'll be getting Fort Gratiot?

Right on Lamar. I do not know how it is for those of you who are very experienced with computers but for myself( a beginner) it is most frustrating to try to use one and have to be redoing, mumbing to myself "what the ----is that message and constantly having to look up in the big book.
St. John, good explanation, but all of us wackos, formal or otherwise, are an impatient bunch.

Sorry Brent,

Didn't mean to lead you astray. John and I are both from Port Huron, Michigan where Fort Gratiot Light is located. I was stationed there at the CG Station from 1971-73. Lived in the quarters right behind the lighthouse. Gave tours, repaired it, painted it, and it repaid me with my life once. So it's a very special lighthouse to me. No, I haven't heard anything about a new Harbour Light. Just a little wishful thinking.

Rich

DARN!! .....oh well, maybe sometime SOON!

Rich....after reading your "post" I can see why it has a Special Place in your heart!! I have a dear friend who lives in Port Huron who feels the same way about the "Huron" lightship. I attended her wedding on the deck. ...B

Your dealer has gotten the Fort Gratiot yet? Where do you live?

John;
I sure appreciate your response in defence of HL's. I didn't realize that they actualy destroy entire shipments for quality reasons. Sure glad they have such high standards!

The delays make it possible for me to save up enough money to buy the new releases. If they could spread them out to one a month I could budget better for them!

Thanks KT for asking the question!

Dale
