I'm guessing that the closest light to me is on the west coast in L.A., so I would have to say Point Fermin or LA Harbor. That is about a 12 hour drive from home.

If Bullock's Point is your closest, Bert, then it must be mine. I would estimate I live about ten miles closer to it than you. Other than Bullocks, I guess the next closest would be Rose Island.

Right this minute it would probably be Seahorse (Cedar) Key which is about 88 miles by air. Boca Grande is also about 90 miles by air. However after the new releases are out Anclote Key will be the closest as it is only 19 miles as the crow flies.

Mine would have to be a real close tie between Ponce De Leon, St. Augustine and Cedar Key all being about 70 miles away depending on the route that you take. Maybe Cedar Key might be a tad closer but it is harder to get to by taking a boat trip.

Cedar Keys Lighthouse. It's two hours away. Of course Anclote Key would be closer by about a half hour.

Okay Weasel58, in case you didn't know this, weasels can't fly! smile Hate to clip your wings on that one, but if you keep talking about crows and flying we may have to start calling you Crow58. :p

In response to Bonnie Jean. I have been flying since I was 9 months old. eek My father is a private pilot, and I am told that on that first flight I grabbed the controls and held onto them. While I have never gotten around to getting my pilots license I have flown my dad’s plane from the co-pilots seat a few times in the past. I want to get my pilots license, if I ever have both the time and money. I always seem to have one or the other, just not both at the same time. frown

I am really delighted to have several lighthouses within a 30 minute drive of home. They are Chatham, Nauset Light, Highland Light, Nobska, Monomoy and Scituate. In fact, when my brother-in-law, AZLightkeeper was in town last summer, we went to Monomoy by boat. We had a terrific adventure!! cool

The closest in actual distance would be Marblehead (8 miles) but to drive to a light it would be a toss up between Marblehead and the Lorain lighthouse. Both would be about a 30 minute drive.

Cross town to Fort Gratiot light. Port Sanilac is a little further and is a FAVORITE.

The St. Clair Channel lights that are planned for sale in 2003 will probably end up being the closest.

Cape Canaveral is closest (but hard to get to) then Ponce Inlet and St. Augustine are close enough for us to visit on short notice.

At the present time it would be Battery Point at Crescent City, CA. I live in Eureka, about 90 miles South of there.

But I once had the wonderful opportunity to live in the duplex depicted on the Fort Gratiot piece.

Ahh ... the good old days.

Middle Bay is the closest only about 15 miles as the crow fly's. But you can't get there form here, not without a boat that is! mad Same for Sand Island (not yet a HL) and add a couple of miles South. mad

Biloxi would be the next closest, only about 45 miles to the West. Then Pensacola is only about 70 miles to the East.

Well, my collection, although walked on/in by my cats, is Tsunami-safe here in C.A. (Central Alabama - El = 928 ft by my GPS.). Unfortunately, that places my nearest lighthouse, the all-but-unreachable Middle Bay, AL, some 250 mi SSW of here. At least I have a whole bunch of neat little ones to look at a bit closer.
