It's time to get some ideas on the National Championship Game that will take place next Monday(8th). The Gators(2) versus Ohio State(1)! Naturally I'm a rabid Gator fan but also have loose ties to Ohio State as I'm also a staunch Browns fan since I grew up just 20 miles from the Ohio State line. I think it will be a good game if both offenses and defenses show up to play. The Gators have one of the fastest teams in the nation while Ohio State has one of the biggest. Can the Gators overcome the 7 1/2 point underdog status? I think we can as long as we stay healthy during the game and our entire team shows up. Can Ohio State beat the Gators? I think so as long as their offense scores like they did in the Michigan game.

You notice I did not badmouth Ohio State because they deserve to be the #1 team in the nation just as Florida deserves to be the #2 team in the nation. Of course the ranking don't mean a hill of beans when it come to the National Championship game and the hype that the teams have roused themselves into. Hopefully, the meeting between #3 Ohio State and #5 Gators in basketball 1 week ago was a prelude to the outcome of the National Championship game next week. The Gators outscored(86-60) and outplayed Ohio State in that game and showed that teamwork in a game is better then having a 7 foot star player on the team.

Let me hear from the Gator Nation and also from Ohio State fans as to your opinions on the outcome. And one final word, should the Gators win, it will be the 1st time in college history that a basketball team and football team have won a National Championship in the same year. That is really something to be hyped up about.

Now that would be quite an accomplishment for the Gators, and something to be extremely proud of!

Florida is lucky to have Urban Meyer as their coach. He did a great job when he was in Utah coaching them to a BCS Fiesta Bowl win in 2004.

In 2004, the University of Utah had the distinction of having the #1 college draft pick in football (Alex Smith) and basketball (Andrew Bogut).

This is really a new season for all these bowl teams! The Bowl performances of Boise State, and USC so far should echo the need for a Football Playoff of at least the Top 8 teams. If some teams didn't stumble at the end of the season the 'Gators' wouldn't even be there. It seems like the top 2 are by default of not losing at the right time. :p
I was rooting for the Gators to be #2 instead of Michigan, and the Rose Bowl validated that 'chance'. But that's why you have to applaud March Madness where the champion has to prove it in head to head competition.

Personally I don't believe Florida even belongs in this Game. I think Michigan is the better team ( and I can’t stand Michigan). This is exactly why I do not care for college bowl games, and the so-called national championship game. There should be an 8 or 16 team playoff series to decide the real national champion, not a bunch of stuffed shirts and a ratty old computer making arbitrary decisions on who can and cannot play in the championship.

Just one Weasel's opinion, YMMV.

Tomorrow night at this time will be the big game. A little trivia that I just learned is the Gators are 4 and 3 against Big Ten schools while Ohio State is 0 and 7 against SEC schools. Hope that trend continues!!!!!!!

A lot of Utah fans are also cheering for Florida.

I hope that Ohio State beat Florida. As big of a fan of the SEC as I am, I don't think Florida deserves to be in the game either, Michigan does. But that is the problem with the BCS.

Stephen - How could Michigan even consider being in the National Championship game when not only did they get beat by #1 Ohio State but thety also got beat by #8 USC. . The only 2 teams that should have a gripe is USC and Boise State.

This bowl season is more than enough proof that there should be a play-off system for the national championship. But since ther isn't, GO BUCKEYES!!! #1 wire to wire.

Half-time and the Gators are chewing up those Buckeyes! Not even the Florida fans would have predicted this.

From the git-go I predicted a 10 point Gator win to my co-workers. It's not over yet so I will just hold my breath and say a few prayers.

41-14. Gators chewed 'em up and spit 'em out. Hope you had some money on that 10 point predicted spread, Rich.

John - I didn't even take the spread. I took the Gators straight across the board from the beginning. I felt that confident that our speed and desire to win would overcome their size. I was right and the media downplaying the Gators helped even more saying they didn't deserve to be there. They were out for blood and to prove they were worthy to be in the Championship Game. By the way, I'll be eating ribs from my winnings for a while.

All I have to add is that Urban prepared his team well.

Apparently one team forgot to show up to this game. Congrats to all you Gator fans.
