60 Minutes tonight did a feature on Thomas Kincade.

So, my question is...

Who out there has one or more Thomas Kincade item - painting, sculpture, furniture, books, etc?

I have a set of four Lighthouses from Avon, some small pictures and a couple of books.

One coffee table size and one small one. And at least one or two old calendars.

Two small pictures on the wall.

I should more correctly say my wife has these things. She likes just about anything Kincade. We visit any of the many Galleries that are out there, many times right next door to the store with the Harbour lights.

I saw the 60 Minutes segment & found it quite interesting. Particularly the couple that started collecting nine months ago & had 138 of his framed prints! Cost about $150,00! The couple mentioned their "addiction" and the fact that they could only display about 80 of the pictures. Rest were stored away in a closet.

There were parallels regarding Collectors groups, signed prints worth more etc. As I stood in my dining room & loooked at the corners of the room that are stacked with HL boxes with no place to display. And no I don't have any Kinkade items.

MJ and I are big fans of Thomas Kincade (aka. "The Painter of Light"). Over the years we have collected a number of his images on various things. At the moment, since we downsized to a small condo from our large home of 20 years, we have the following displayed.

1. Approx. 9 X 18 inch matted & framed piece with three images and an inspirational note to include "Beacon of Hope" and "A Light in the Storm". The verse reads: "The Light Shines in the Darkness" John 1:5

2. "Clearing Storms", approx. 18 X 27 inch canvas surrounded by about 4 inches of frame.

3. "The Sea of Tranquility", approx. 24 X 36 inch canvas surrounded by about 5 inches of frame.

We have purchased some of his inspirational books for friends as gifts. His work is beautiful and changes with the lighting directed on it.

There are several Thomas Kincade items in our house...we have the same one that Ron & MJ have..."Beacon of Hope" and "A Light in the Storm" also Garden of Prayer, Memories of England and Gardens of Light...Ours are not the large paintings just the samller type. I feel very fortunate that at my first collectible convention in Long Beach I was able to attend one of his seminars where he painted a picture right in front of us. He made it looks so easy. At that time he had only one daughter and another on the way. Now he has four daughters. Since he has been with Media Arts he no longer does the conventions. (he doesn't have to ) I agree that he is very commericalized today but I still just love his work. If you have never had the opportunity to go to a Kincade Gallery to view his pictures...you should. I must say though, the way he signs his paintings is not very personal. Unlike our favorite signer Bill Younger, who sits down, takes his time and talks with us.

The interview and 60 minutes story was very interesting to watch. I saw myself, as did Donna, when the couple were talking about displaying the art. Did you hear that since the filming of the piece their collection has increased? Boy did that sound familiar.

The only items that I have are pillows, notecards, and one devotional book that I have received from friends. While I do appreciate his works, my favorite is DMorgan and you will find her art on my walls. You guessed it, lighthouses. Have any of you seen her newest book, A Light For the Journey?

Thomas Kincade? I've heard the name and seen his work for sale in various publications. Granted he does do nice work but does he paint actual lights or are they all fictious. Any art work hanging on my walls has to be of actual lights.

I think that Thomas Kincade is like a modern day Norman Rockwell.(Just a different style of painting) Probably almost everyone has something from both of these artists somewhere in their house.

I'll have to disagree with you oseabee. Kincade has done at least one real lighthouse in a painting. A few years ago he did the Southeast Light on Block Island.

Have a couple of older calendars and a nightlight but that's about it. If I'm going to spend money on collectables, it's going to be HLs and not pieces of art that no one knows exactly how many they reproduced. My daughter has a numbered print of his and quite truthfully I thing it's gaudy with all the colors, but, than that's why I'm not an art critic.

We have a couple of large Kincade prints and a few smaller ones. We purchased them locally at one of his galleries. Kincade is one of our favorite artist and wish we could afford a few more of his gorgeous prints. As far as painting actual lights, it doesn't make one bit of difference to me. To each their own.

All I have are some notecards that I received as a gift, because they have lighthouses on them, of course!

Update: When I walked into my living room after work the late day sun was shining thru "A Light in the Storm" glass suncatcher.

I forgot that my oldest son bought it for us last Christmas. He knows he can't go wrong with anything lighthouse related. Don't know about the Kinkade galleries, but he found it at a place called "The Museum Company".

Anyway it is very attractive hanging in our large window!

Just one plate here. Nice, but nothing that I would collect.

Kincade just released Split Rock. If you ordered before Sept. 1st? you got $100 off the price. I passed on this painting. I thought the cliff looked like clouds not rock. He will be painting other real lighthouses in the future. Has anyone else seen this painting?

When you look at "Clearing Storms" you will notice that the lighthouse (keepers quarters and tower)is very much like Portland Head Light in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. In fact the rocks near the lighthouse also resemble the ones at Portland Head. The rest of the painting has no resemblance to this great Maine Lighthouse.

One could wonder if this may have started out as a painting of Portland Head and then changed, for whatever reason.

No Kincade's in the Kremer household. Lots of pictures on the wall, but none of his.

I do have a famous painting and also my favorite from my favorite artist - Whitefish Point - by Digger!!!!

HE IS THE BEST IN MY BOOK!!!

A Kinkade Gallery open recently in town. Beautiful artwork! Very talented. Have notecards, datebooks, calendars, and Christmas ornaments of his work.
Have an extra or two of the Hallmark Victorian Christmas ornaments if anyone is interested.

We have a variety of Kinkade items, ranging from signed/numbered prints to suncatchers to some of the Bradford Editions items, such as the lighthouse ornaments.

Speaking of art, we also have Marty Bell's
"Old Point Loma" print.
