This morning the actual temp is -17 degrees F with windchills -25 to -31 degrees F here in the Madison, Wisconsin area. They closed schools here today because of the cold. Brrr.....

It was around 6 degrees this morning in southeastern Massachusetts. Single digit temps are predicted overnight for most of this week. High today will be in the teens. Wind chills are well below zero. I guess it's still winter!

They closed the schools here also. Temp is -17....but with the windchill we are at a brisk -40!

It went down to 4 degrees overnight.
With the coastal winds around 20-30 mph, the windchill temp was around -10 degrees along the Jersey coast.

I can't imagine what -40 must feel like.

Hey! It's going to get down to 30 degrees in Ocala. How's that for cold? I'll be thinking of all you poor souls in the teens and colder.

They closed the schools because of the -30 windchills. They say it is too dangerous for children to be waiting for buses when it gets that cold.

Suzanne, I can't believe those temperatures or snow. I was just in Utah and was pretty confortable at 17. A dry cold - no wind or humidy. It was 14 here this morning on LI - brutal! Windy! 20 - 40 mph gusts and high humidity. Luckily no snow.

Since we are just getting the cold and the fog, is anyone going to let us see the snow scenes? Would love to see some "Lighthouses in the Snow". Anyone photographed any this year yet?

Bob...you need to be in Utah this week. It was 47 yesterday and supposed to be 51 today.

It was 71 in St. George yesterday. I need to get back down there!

Colorado enjoying the same warm weather as Utah. Was 71 in Denver yesterday...absolutely wonderful. Melting some of that snow, cooler today, but snow still melting.

If you folks have been watching the Weather Channel you may have seen some of their intrepid reporters in Upstate NY. We have enough snow at my place but in Oswego and points north they've received more than 5 feet of snow since last weekend! It's cold too, not quite as bad as it's been in the midwest but combined with the everpresent wind, it ain't nice.

I.O.'s been in FL and is due back Sunday. I've been firing up the woodstove in the basement about 3:30 when the sun from my southern exposure is waning. Then I turn that thermostat (that doesn't run when the sun's out) down and camp out here in the basement for the evening.

Hmmm ... why is it the country comes to a total stand still, when we get about 2" of snow?
5 of the main airports closed, trains not running, roads partially or completely blocked...
One would think there was at least several feet of snow. But ... the forecast was for about 6" but I doubt anyone had more than 3 ... The country stands still regardless!
And the worst thing? WE did not get any! I was nearly looking forward to looking out the window at a white covering!

A few days of warming here has done alot for us. Official snow fall at the nearest measuribf station about 3 miles from my house: Oct-36", Nov-8.5", Dec 62.6". Driving through the neighborhood yesterday I spied lighted reindeer and toy soldiers emerging for the first time since before Christmas. My stepson found a RAZR phone in front of his condo, probably not worth keeping. We've probably forgotten what else is under there.

The cold air we've had since Nov has finally moved east. Sorry for you all back there but it had lost its charm for us.
