I filled up the "Hemi" yesterday and spent almost eighty bucks to do so. Twenty-five gallons at $3.20 per gallon. Ugh, the only good part is I only fill it up about every five weeks.

 Bob

Just filled up the Range Rover with 20 gallons at $3.17/gallon (93 octane).

Same with Bob, it's a big cost per fill, but I only need to do so about every two-three weeks, so it's not as bad.

Well, my little Honda Accord takes 12 gallons or so at $2.87 and doesn't need to be fed again for around 4 weeks. :p

87 octane is holding at $2.97-$2.99. Some area stations have broken the $3.00 mark per gallon.

Happy Thanksgiving from "Big Oil"!

The greedy bastards had it up to around $3.25 for a while, and hung on to the over $3 price range until this week. They have slacked off a bit and it was at $2.92 this morning for regular.

Really sad thing is that I read an op ed piece a week or so ago that addressed the excessive price of oil right now. One of the gurus said it should be at about $55 a barrel, that all above that was a result of the totally unregulated markets that allow people to speculate on margin, driving the price to an unrealistic price. Be nice to somehow see the market crash and all the dirtbag speculators get their fair rewards........

In a way I agree ... trouble is, if the market crashes, the people that suffer most are the little retailers, who don't have the resources to weather a storm like that and so go under. The bastards who speculate more often than not have reserves and can survive...

3.06 in the Detroit area. It dropped to 2.99 thanksgiving night, then went back up again.

I say when and if the time comes we all buy into the bio fuel and put the "towel heads" out of business for good.

Debbie was right, except that she was a few days off. After jacking it up they were slowly lowering the price. Had it down to 2.89 by yesterday. That's where it was this morning. Then the greedy bastards jacked it up 26cents, to 3.15. No apparent reason other than greed. Fortunatley, Sam's Club usually will not raise the price until they close for the night so if you can get there you can get the "old" price.

Sorry, Dave...didn't think it would be that quick! We purchase our gas before the evening hours also. As soon as that truck pulls in...we know that the price is going to change. Hopefully, a few cents lower-but usually NOT! frown

With the price of gas, rising heating, food, and prescription/medical costs... they wonder why Holiday spending is down! Unless you own an oil company or maybe a pharmacutical company... you have to cut back somewhere. DUH!!!
But I guess that could be another whole topic.

The Fastrac stations around here are at $3.319. They also advertise a pack of Sonoma cigarettes for $3.33. If we can run a car on corn or Mickey D's cooking oil maybe we can run it on tobacco too?

Filled up yesterday - don't do much traveling these days, so a fillup every three weeks or so is enough for the ole Accord. It's eight years old now and I'm keeping my fingers crossed! 87 octane staying right at $2.87-$2.89.

87 octane is $3.03 a gallon at the cheapo stations in my area of southeastern Massachusetts. News reports predicted gas may go as high as $4.00 a gallon by mid February. That prediction was made when oil went over $100 a barrell. It has since dropped below $100 and the $4.00 a gallon talk has subsided.

I think things may change when a new President takes office a year from now. I predict a drop in oil prices at that time. Does anyone else think that may happen?

I just bought Regular for $2.84 yesterday. This is the lowest cash/credit price in my area. the others are mostly at $2.89-2.99 for Regular.

I have a site I go to before I go out and it tells me the lowest prices in the last 36 hours.

I don't think a new President will have much of a permanent effect on the price of oil.

$2.76.9 for regular (85 octane in CO) at the King Soopers (part of Kroger) yesterday. That's with the 3 cents discount for using my King Soopers savings card.

A news report this week said CO had the least expensive gas in the country. You won't get that price in the mountains at the ski resorts though!

Gas price for regular was around $2.91 yesterday.

I feel a new president will help lower gas prices. As long as he's not from Texas and has the oil companies as buddies.

Paid $3.11 for 93 the other day, before driving up to Mass. for the NELL trip.

Later, I paid something like $3.47 in the Hull, MA area. The worst was the final topup - $3.67 on I95 in CT!

And to think, here in NJ I don't even have to step out of my car...

What makes up the price of your gallon of gasoline? 68% price of crude oil, 8% refining cost, 11% marketing and distribution and 13% taxes. Last item probably varies from state to state. Art mad

$3.07 the other day for 93 at the sort-of-discount station. Think it was around $2.87 for 87.

Looking at my fuel logs, I was paying around $2.40 this time last year. So still a definite disparity.

I drive by the same gas station every day - price has risen 3-4 cents a day for the 6 days. Paid $3.129 yesterday. Up from $2.699 a month ago.

Remember the gas shock after the 2005 Reunion. Came off Mackinac Island to discover gas was $3.30 or so (post Katrina).

Have YOU altered your driving because of the increase in gas prices? Putting off long driving trips, car-pooling, running a bunch of erands on one outing, Having a lighter foot on the gas pedal, working from home one day a week, purchased a more fuel efficient vehicle, buying Powerball tickets? etc.?

Oh yes, we did change our habits ...

- Not going for "Grandsonfix" often

- trying to use the bus (thankfully we don't have to pay for that - pensioners get bus travel free)

- using the car's computer to show the mpg (that shows the use in real time, so you can adjust your driving)

- and generally we try to drive as little as possible (not easy when walking is difficult!)

But at $9.68 gas is too expensive to mess about

$3.03 at the King Soopers this morning.

Buying Powerball tickets...YES with the jackpot at $275 million, purchase is a must laugh

Working from home one day a week is currently not a option if though I do have remote dial-in. But that is only for extremely bad weather days or to use if I am sick.

There goes "Concept Driving Trip in UK Next Month." I think we'll stay in London, take public transport, and get ripped off on hotels instead. ($600 a night for a Marriott. We've paid far less than that to stay at a suite at the Ritz-Carlton in the US.)

I paid $3.13.9 a gallon a week ago for premium. According to today's USA Today, we here in NJ have the cheapest gas in the nation...and we don't even pump it. laugh Pays to have something like five refineries in the state.

It said that we'll be peaking in May-June, at $3.48 national average. Then down about ten cents per month through October, culminating at $2.95 in December. And, apparently, it'll be down to $2.83 a gallon in December...2009.

I'll be saving this article, and filling in the monthly national averages that the paper reports each month. A little "experiment" on the behalf of the "speculators."

Ouch Greg, that is a lot of money for a hotel. Shame you could not find something a little smaller a bit outside the City. Bet it would have been cheaper.

But ENJOY your trip! London has lots to see and do, so I don't think boredom will come into it.

I send I.O. out for whatever I can...and leave my car in the garage! smile

Besides gas the cost of home heating oil has really escalated. When we called March 1st to inquire it was $341.9 a gallon. Thank goodness for the wood stove as we'd used less than half our supply and don't really need to buy any more oil for this season.

Do you think that that prediction for gas prices has ANYTHING AT ALL to do with an election coming up in November?

If it has, the election fever has spillt over to this side of the big puddle too!

87 octane is averaging $3.09 - $3.15 in my area. But my fun car will be used more than my Hemi pickup (13 mpg). My new XFire (Crossfire) is great on gas. I've been averaging 24 mpg around town. Some of my fellow XFire owners told me it woul get 25-30 mpg on the highway, and 20-25 mpg around town. I thought they were kidding because the manufacturer's estimates are less mile per gallon. Needless to say I'm pleased with the mileage, but the rising price of gas really stinks! I'm happy I don't drive a diesel powered car or truck. Diesel is selling for $4.05 - $4.15 a gallon around here.

We have a friend who has a diesel car, a Volkswagen. Even though the price of fuel is high he gets incredible mileage so he is still better off.

Then again we have neighbors who wintered in Florida with both their gas powered car, their RV and the diesel truck that hauls the RV. It will be a very costly trip for them when they return.

I can't help but shudder to think of what you'll be paying to run your boat this year Bob!

87 Octane hit a new high yesterday at the cheapo gas stations. It is now $3.40 a gallon. It was at $3.23 just a couple of days ago. Diesel was at $4.25. Big oil is killing the working man. I filled the Hemi (13 mpg) and the Crossfire (24)yesterday. I spent a total of $130. Lorna's Envoy (16 mpg) needs gas so I guess it will be a $200 week for gas.

I paid $3.49 the other day in Herndon, VA (near Dulles airport) while I have seen $4.29 for diesel at Tyson's Corner and $3.55 for regular gas in Washington, DC. You couldn't pay me to live in the district.

I have been driving less and generally combine trips.

The reunion at Cedar Point and lighthousing the week following will be an expensive vacation for me.

We all should have purchased "Big Oil" stock. 87 octane is now $3.62 a gallon at the cheaper stations in my area. One of the regular gas stations is now selling premium for $4 per gallon. They only have a couple of weeks to get the lower octane up to $4 by Memorial Day.

On the bright side, my new Crossfire is averaging 26.5 mpg. That's twice what I get with my Hemi Ram.

Cheer up! Buy a lottery ticket and maybe you'll win enough money to never worry about gas prices again.

 Bob

Bob,

You new "toy" is absolutely gorgeous. However, I have a question: "Is the house in the background you home?" If so, no wonder you can afford your beautiful "toy". I'm jealous and green with envy.

I purchased a Toyota Yaris In January. As of last fill up it is getting 33mpg for local driving. It is slightly bigger than a Mini Cooper, but $5000 cheaper. I love it Art towel

Regular is at $3.61 and Super is $3.91 a gallon. Florida is considering removing the $.18 a gallon state tax for June thru August. That equates to an average of $30.00 saved. That's the governor's way to say they need more money so here comes and increase in the sales tax or a reason to have a state income tax. There are slick willies in all stages of the government.

Rotten bast***s had it up to $3.86 around here mid-day yesterday. Then dropped it to a bargain price of $3.80 later same day. The $3.45 in NJ is sounding pretty sweet...... If I let the van get less than a quarter tank, it sets me back $100 to fill it up.

I paid $3.429 yesterday for regular - 85 octane here, that's with my 3 cents a gallon savings with my King Soopers (aka Kroger) card. $47.80 to fill up. I think they stopped the 10 cents a gallon discount on your next fill-up if you had purchased $100+ in groceries.

I am getting an average of 22 mpg with my Hyundai Santa Fe 6 cylinder. I drive 50 miles around trip to go to work each day. frown
