Alright, time to updated those gas prices! I'm heading down to Florida on Friday and I'm interested to know what type of gas prices I'll see.
I'll be going through Indianapolis IN, Lexington KY, Knoxville TN, Augusta GA, St. Augustine FL to Orlando on the way down, and up through Atlanta, Nashville, Louisville and back through Indy on the way home.
What should I expect?

My area is not on your route but the lowest price for 87 octane in my area is around $2.24 a gallon. Bob

Unlike Bob I am on your route, Mike.. It was $2.06 at the station I fill up at on the Westside of Indy this morning... It starts dropping in price once you pass Lafayette, IN... The two gas stations at the West 10th street exit on I465 are usually about the same price.

Good news so far Paul, that's better than the $2.36 it is in most places here.

You can expect to pay between $2.25 - $2.35 a gallon for 87 octane in the central Florida region. Those prices might flutuate a little but not by much. It also appears like BP(AMOCO) has the lowest prices in the Ocala area.

From Tampa up to Spring Hill FL, gas is around $2.23/gallon. I've found that Tampa is about as cheap as you are going to find it in Florida.

Gas prices are again dropping. Here it was 1.99 as of Friday. The paper says that it should stay that way for awhile.

Now $1.83 or so most places around here. Paul is probably a little cheaper in Indy. Of course, I finally broke down and put 25 gallons in the van last week when the price went under $2 . . . .

At the overpriced station downtown, it was $2.14 for regular. Strangely, it was $2.37 for mid and $2.47 for premium. Not like the usual pricing scheme of 10 cents difference. I'm maybe starting to regret a little bit that I just closed a deal with a guy on a 1993 Range Rover...12MPG on premium. But to me, it's 100% worth it.

Every station in town has a different price. Saw a $2.03 earlier and, over the weekend, we spotted one at $1.97 (after we'd filled up! ) The range goes all the way to $2.26 with many being around $2.09. Go figure!

Gas prices are down here. The average for 87 octane seems to be from $2.13 - $2.16. I've been home sick since Sunday and don't really know if anything has changed in that time. Bob

I paid $2.07 Saturday up here in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago. That was sure a welcome change for $3.25 this past summer. I just bought an '07 Chevy Colorado and the tank is bigger than my last truck so it's nice to be able to fill it up for less than $40.00

Mike, Isn't that the truth! My husband has an F250 and it's been anywhere from $50.00 to $60.00 to fill it up evey week. Like you...it's now down to around $40.

Those are small gas tanks. My van has a 35 gallon tank. If the gas is a little over $2, half a tank will kill off $40.

Dave, my Dad has an '06 fill size Ford van. Holds 38 Ggallons. He pulls a 32' travel trailer quite a bit during the summer and after one such trip to Branson MO. he told mte he got "ptretty good milage, 8 or 9 to the gallon" You do the math at 3 plus dollars a gallon.
Glad he's got a good retirement plan!

What! You didn't watch SOTU?
Better mileage on vehicles, greater storage space for the strategic reserve (not asking for more strategic reserve, just more storage space, I guess.) Less reliance on foreign oil, Global warming issues.
All in all, not a friendly talk for those in the gas/transportation business IMHO. I guess the reaction of that oil company was "We'll show them!"

Tom, pretty much the same happened here, but on an even worse scale. The station that seems to be the epicenter of the local rise and fall of gas prices went from 1.83 to 2.15 with one fell swoop. Even for those greedy b******* this was a big jump. Their normal is 17 cents mid to late week to screw the people who buy their gas on their Friday payday.

Figure it must be the cold. After the greedy dogs jumped the price 32 cents a week ago it worked its way back to 2.05 by the weekend. Then today it jumped 20 cents to 2.25. Gotta just love the way they routinely gouge and generally screw the public.
I know we have it great compared to Margret and Iris and others, but it is still irritating to see some of the oil companies and/or distributors and/or local stations just hosing people like they do.

$1.98 is the low at several stations near me. Been hovering between $1.99 and the $1.98 since before the weekend. You'll see a $2.05 here and there...usually right next door to a $1.98 station.

Anywhere from a low of $1.94.9 to a high of $2.19.9 for 85 octane in the Denver/Greenwood Vlg/Littleton arena and for 87 octane prices range from $2.04.9 to $2.39.9

87 Octane has jumped up about 30 cents a gallon, in southeastern Massachusetts, in the last few weeks. Low price is $2.46 a gallon at the cheapo stations. Once again the gouging of the motoring public begins. Big Oil is looking for more record profits again this year.

What a difference 4 months makes. Looking at the begining of this thread and wishing those were still the prices since I am leaving on Saturday to drive to Oregon. So my question is, along Route 90/80 which are the cheaper states. Is Ohio cheaper than Indiana Dave? Using the national look up site looks like almost $3.00 a gallon along most of the route. Glad the summer driving season is not here yet.

Filled up yesterday at $2.89 a gallon for 85 octane. 87 octane was $2.99. What are the excuses from the oil companies for the increases this time?

We are sitting at 2.99.9 and have been this week. Doing a check on Speedway's web site, Michigan City and Gary are a little less, but not by much.
While I do appreciate the beating that Margret takes buying gasoline, I do believe that much of the sudden increase in our US prices is the annual summer hosing of the public starting a bit early.
While I don't have an issue with capitalism and the profits it generates, I do believe the oil companies are into the obscene catagory and they don't give a rip. They know they can hose the public and get away with it. If Congress tries to legislate a penalty for the obscene profits they take then they will simply shut down production and make it worse. As much as the very thought pains and repulses me, I could probably support nationalizing the oil companies. . . . . Probably an even worse evil, but you just hate to see these companies screw the public to the level they do and get away with it, probably not even paying a proportional income tax due to all the breaks I imagine they benefit from.

Nice to see another state as high as NY for a change...
As long as there's the current demand the gas companies will charge whatever they like. I already drive as little as possible. Maybe I shouldn't mow the lawn this year???

$2.89.99 here Friday for regular. I filled up on Tuesday for $2.79.99, but it was the lone station at that rate. The next day, that station joined the rest at $2.89.99.

$288.9 for 87 octane here in southeastern Massachusetts. News reporter stated gas has gone up thirty cents a gallon this year. Further reported Exxon-Mobil's profits up 10% for the first quarter of this year and Chevron's profits are up 18% in 2007.
Thank God we the consumer are able to help the big oil companies out with their profit margin. What would they do without us?
 Bob

Bob Ott,
I like to keep the politics and religion out of a civilized forum. I find it tough to draw the line.
However, Dave can dance on that tightrope artfully. Kudos!
