85 Octane has gone up 9 cents a gallon (now $2.98.9)since I filled up on Saturday! I think I saw diesel fuel at $3.25.9. There are a good number of folks here that drive diesel fueled pickup, especially those ones with the dual-rear tires for pulling horse trailers. We may have to go back to riding horses if the fuel gets much higher!

Just announced last night a new average high, for regular, of $3.42 here in Orange County, Southern California.

My wife and I were talking about gas prices today
and we both could remember buying gas for $0.25 a gallon. Does that age us?

Reached a new high here on the northern Ohio shores of Lake Erie today at $3.199 a gallon. How did we ever get in this situation where the oil companies control the economy for the U.S.A.? They are absolutely untouchable and can manipulate the price to anything they want. When will this end?

Bruce and Judy,

I do remember my Dad purchasing gasoline for 32 cents per gallon. We lived in southern Wisconsin.

When I was in high school in the Detroit area gas was around 24 cents per gallon.

Lowest price I ever paid was 19.8 and I'm not much over fifty.

Good times.

I'm with you Dan. I remember 19.9 cents gallon in Michigan. Typical price was usually between 24.9 and 35.9 cents.

Anybody heard about tomorrows(5/15) "Gas Out"?

If at all possible, don't get a gas fillup tomorrow. It's to boycott the outragous gas prices.

Loon, I'd be nuts to participate in that here on Tuesday. That's my day to fill the tank up. I get 6 cents off every gallon on Tuesday.

Regular was at $3.19 here on Saturday, I'm sure it's gone up a few cents since then. I think I saw on the news that regular was at about $4.19 in California.

I too can remember when gas was at 19 cents a gallon when I was in high school. You could drive around all weekend on $2.00 worth of gas.

Gas is about $3.29 at most places here, The local refinery (BP Whiting, IN.) has been shut down for a few weeks now and is expected to be down for possibly a couple more months as they prepare for a huge expansion project.

Last Wednesday gas was $3.29 here and in southern Indiana it was as low as $2.86 on the same day.

87 octane ranges from $2.95 to around $3.05 per gallon depending on where you fill up.

We're happy we can contribute our part to the record profits the poor big oil companies need to survive. Ya, right!!!

I paid $3.05.9 for premium the other day. Regular was around $2.87.9.

Then I found this page yesterday. And I really felt good when I saw that I could fill up my tank in Egypt for a little over $3.

Those prices were from 2003. Gas was alot less in the U.S. back then, too.

We hit 3.49 for the cheap stuff on Monday and 3.59 for up grade. Doyne's Dad has a Standard Oil Station and he remembers the gas wars when it got down to .19 and .24. Boy I guess we are old. When the guys bring in their gas tickets to our store, I just cringe! Yikes eek Try filling 2 vans and a pickup!

Hit $3.29 here in Cincinnati yesterday afternoon. In the morning, many of the stations were around $2.99...

It was suppose to be "boycott the pumps day."

That worked real well...

The cost of training Harry's replacement?

$2.90 this morning in my neighborhood (St. Louis suburb). One intersection has 4 gas stations and the price is usually lower then the city average.
$3.01 in the rest of the St. Louis area.

The local Cumberland Farms (Gulf) surpassed the $3.00 mark for regular with a morning posting of $3.03 per gallon. By evening it actually dropped two cents to $3.01. The Sunoco station next door followed suit and matched the price for their gas.

I think the price will go below the three dollar mark after the Memorial Day weekend only to head back up before July 4th.

The major oil companies continue to price gouge and laugh as the record profits roll in. This higher oil cost is passed on to everything we need to exist. Anyone else notice that everything in the super markets has gone up?

 Bob

87 octane: BJ's Wholesale Club in Franklin, MA, $2.79; Cumberland Farms Gulf $2.81. Those are the cheapest in my neck of the woods.

Prices are still are a lot higher than they should be with oil companies enjoying record profits once again.

87 octane has dropped to as low as $2.79 in my area. Hopefully, it will drop a few more pennies per gallon.

I filled the boat up at Point Judith last Sunday at $3.38 a gallon and that's the lowest I've seen it in quite some time.

87 octane is down to $2.59 a gallon around here. Usually most stations have a ten cent difference between octane grades, but now the difference between regular and premium seems to be about fifteen cents.

The greedy bast**** around here jumped the price 27 cents yesterday, to 2.99. Had been all over the map recently, depending on what excuse they could come up with for jacking up the prices. It would seem to me that a 10% price increase at one time would constitute price gouging but the powers that be can't seem to figure that out. Just gotta love the bottom feeding dirt bags that set the prices........

It's hard to say what the price of gas is here anymore. It depends where in the area you are plus the day of the week. Discount stores are overall cheaper in my neck of the woods but if I'm 6 miles away I've seen stations with the same price or less. Then there are a couple of grocery stores that offer 10 to 20 cents off a gallon at certain stations depending on how much you spend in the store.

Bottom line is if you need gas you buy it. If you need it in the right place at the right time you pay less. The only way to really save is to drive less. Fortunately for me I don't have to commute to work anymore and I very rarely go out just to go out. I try to consolidate my stops whenever I can. I may not go anywhere for 2 or 3 days. Then when I have to shop I'll go to all the stores I can stand the same day.

Have you heard the latest, maybe preferred parking for "green" cars? Give me a break! And how many people do you know who have handicapped tags for their cars who aren't handicapped? I know walking is good exercise but don't you love going to stores when it's raining or you're just plain tired that have tons of empty handicapped spaces followed by regular spots full of empty shopping carts?

Enough ranting, here's a funny story. Years ago I went to our local Walmart when I spotted my Dad who was in his 80's leaving the store. He went to his car which he'd parked in the spot marked "Employee of the Month". I asked him why he'd parked there. He said, "Nobody ever parks there and it's a good space". laugh

Must be nice! :p Here it's $2.97.
I have to agree with Dave's sentiments...just keeps going up. Big jumps and lame excuses! anger
I use the same game plan as Mombo. I wait and do all my errands in one trip. Haven't been going just joy riding.
Remember the good old days when you used to jump in the car and go for a Sunday drive? Didn't cost you 2 arms and a leg back then.

Why? mad I don't think they are at all lovable!

Here - if you are lucky and shop at the right super market - you pay $8.20 for 87... anger

I can see where one could get well cheesed off at empty shopping carts in parking spaces! That you should complain to the shop about. People are so inconsiderate and thoughtless. But the shop should collect the carts and stack them in appropriate places.

As for the handicapped spaces ... Somehow there never are any empty ones when I need one... must shop at the wrong (or right popular) stores wink ... even when on your side of the big pond! frustrated

"Sock it to me baby", here in southeastern Massachusetts. Cheapest 87 octane is now $2.96. Premium is around $3.20-$3.25. The oil companies must need even more of a profit to do their Christmas shopping this year.

 Bob

The cheapest I've seen on my side of town is $2.79 - $2.89. As big and widespread as this city is, though, you can usually find whatever rate you want!

Bob,
You won't mind paying New York prices once you have been to Ireland and paid for gas there!

Other places have always paid a lot more than we do. We still don't like it when it goes up here. But maybe, just maybe it's going to go down - a bit? Crude took a dip last night; I haven't checked today, though - probably just a tease, right?

Myrtle Beach at $3.04 for the low grade. Couldn't resist this "bargain price". Filled-up.
Had a half tank, when done $40.00 was the damage.
