yeah, right. I'm not a big fan of the stuff. We set a Dec. record here yesterday with 14.3 in. I was planning on moving this weekend. Life is full of challenges, just some of them you would rather not deal with.

Orv,
We got the tail end of the snow you got here in Cincinnati yesterday. We got lots of freezing rain last night and about 2" of the "White Death" yesterday. This still brought the highways to a standstill! I shudder to think what would happen here if we had as much snow as you got!

Well let me tell ya...

We've got about 4 inches of white stuff in Portland, Maine...and it sure mixes well with all the holiday decorations in town. It doesn't get any better than Christmas-time in New England with a fresh blanket of snow.

Snow, Snow, Snow

That is all you see here. We have had just .3 of an inch less here that we had all last winter (its only December 14 for petty sakes). It will be a white Christmas here, now all we hope for is clear roads to drive on to finish shopping and visiting the relatives. OH OH the weatherman said more snow is in the forecast for the week-end. Guess we could wish for a tropical Christmas instead of a white Christmas. But that is as likely as Al Gore becoming President.

I don't think that I have liked snow since January 1982, when we had a blizzard here in St. Louis. It was the worst in my lifetime.
We just got 7 inches of the stuff and I am not thrilled about it. It is pretty, but I really detest having to drice in it. People here in St. Louis really don't know how to drive in snow.
I was in Las Vegas last week for a pharmacy conference. It was almost 70 every day and absolutely delightful. Lots of sunshine. Then, back to home and the white stuff... oh well. I was in Vegas 2 years ago and it snowed- hadn't snowed for 20 years. People were going crazy- trying to build snowmen, having accidents, etc. and it all melted by noon!
My apologies to any of you who love snow- I simply do not.

On Monday, Wisconsin got anywhere from 5 to 14 inches depending where in the state you check. The Racine/Kenosha/Milwaukee area got the most snow.

Where I live, we got 8 inches of snow on Monday and 2 more inches of snow on Wednesday. Lake Monona, in Madison, finally froze over! Get out the ice skates, skis, snowmobiles, and ice fishing gear!

Same here in sunny Arizona Mike... and to think you don't have to shovel here unless maybe your planting something.

Hi Chris G,

I was in Las Vegas last weekend as well. It was absolutely beautiful. I flew home to Utah Sunday night around 11:00pm. We had to scrape snow and ice off the car. Earlier on Sunday, my husband and I had been having lunch outside in Las Vegas at the Paris Hotel and watching the outdoor fountains at the Bellagio Hotel. The fountains are co-ordinated to spray with the music that plays. It is a great way to enjoy lunch and entertainment at the same time.

Well Mark, from this transplanted yankee's viewpoint, it sure does look beautiful! Thanks for the photo.

After talking with some relatives back home in Clearfield, PA, it looks like a white Christmas is inevitable! [sigh] Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

Tim - Merry Christmas!

Hey Mark, ... Now that's a "chilling" picture! You can keep all that white stuff at your place.

That's the word from the East Coast where it's a very balmy 60 degrees and the wind is blowing around 30 mph. Trust me....things are about to change in New England.

Hey Mark. You have to keep the boxes for the older lights closed or those darned shipping peanuts will blow all over the place like that.

Just talked to a friend back in Port Huron who reports 3 'snow days' Wed-Fri this past week. Wednesday night 20" white stuff, Friday another 6".

Rich & I are glad we're not there now.

Here is that Michigan snow that John is talking about. It just keeps coming with up to 5" more forecast for today. It will go well with the 27" the Saginaw Bay area has received already

We must be in the same snow storm here near Madison, Wisconsin. It is snowing right now and they are predicting another 5 inches... and I just got my driveway cleared. This winter is going to kill me!

Well, here in Springfield we are finally getting dug out of this mess. Fortunately it did not snow enough to accumulate anymore than the original 14 inches. We did get moved this weekend into the new house. IT was a miserable experience. On Sat. the temperature went to about 5 degrees and the wind chill was -25 to -35. Fortunately we were able to load in and out in the garages. The day started out around 35 with drizzle and just turned to freezing rain and got colder and windier. Sunday we had a real heat wave with the high going all the way up to 20 with the windchill at 10. Sunday felt like a nice summer day compared to Saturday. Today, at 10:00 am the current temperature is 1 degree f. WINTER IS JUST STARTING. I sure am missing that global warming we were having last year.

Not looking good here in Northern Indiana!!! I started my 3 week vacation last Wed. as it has snowed every day since. So far I have went through 2 tanks of gas in the snowblower which I have had to use every day since I have been off. Been stuck 3 time so far, twice in the driveway! Can't use the outside Christmas lights anymore since they are covered with 20" of snow! I have been breaking holes in the pond trying to keep it from freezing solid and killing the fish and of course the dog fell in when I finished! Yesterday I finally located my driveway thanks to the town's big payloader. And now they are calling for an additional 6" tonight with another storm to hit this Thursday!!! The family regretfully agreed to delay Christmas until Dec. 30 in hopes that by then we can finally get to the city to do our Christmas shopping!!! I am ready for Spring and they say winter hasn't even started yet!!!!

Gee Digger, shop on the net and let UPS, FedX or the USPS worry about getting the stuff to you. Glad you northern Hoosiers are keeping the worst of the snow to yourselves. Thanks.

Here on Planet Fresnel we're well ensconced in a blanket of white. Yesterday, a nice record fall of 8.2 inches for the day added to our already foot high accumulation. At the moment its a hoary 6° with more snow on the way for the next three days.

Even the crows look cold.

We finally got some snow here in Northern Maryland today. About 4-5 inches so far. They are forecasting more for Friday and Sunday night. Looks like we will have a white Christmas for a change! It's beautiful. I love it!

Dave,

Weatherman stated last night that we have had 22 straight days of snow. Luckily we only got 3 of the 6" predicted for last night but they say 5" more today with maybe double that on Thur. Poor Jaker's, they got 12" in just a few hours yesterday! Total whiteout.

I hate the fact that all the snow makes my commute so much longer, but this will be the first real White Christmas we've had in Chicago for a long time. We'll enjoy it!

I think I have had enough. We got another 6 inches of snow yesterday. I think it was actually more than the weatherperson said. I spent the day Christmas shopping (10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.). Everytime I came out to my car there was another 2 inches of snow on it. Then there was the traffic on the beltline that was moving at 5 mph (instead of 55). It was a slow driving day. Luckily, when I came home a neighbor had plowed my driveway! There is more than 2 feet of snow on the ground and much more where snow has been piled. The sidewalks look like tunnels in the snow. We will surely have a white Christmas!

I agree with Suzanne, we have enough snow. It must have snowed at least 8" today. Tonight it is snowing like crazy with a wind. The weatherman says we could get up to 12" from this little system. I think we are going to get more here than he thinks. The only way we won't have a white Christmas here in Holland is if it turns 90 degrees tomorrow. I think it is going to be a long, long WINTER. After all today is the first day of our so called winter. It seems funny that all of this white stuff up to now has been considered falling the fall season.

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!!

TAKE CARE DRIVING IN THIS STUFF FOR ALL OF YOU NORTHERNERS.

The weatherperson today said we have had 24.5 inches of snow in Madison, Wisconsin in the month of December. We have had 30.2 inches for the season so far. He said it has snowed on 20 out of the past 21 days. Now it is turning very very cold.

I agree with 2beacons, we will have a white Christmas this year. I don't think we will get that 90 degree weather in the next week or so, but you never know.... We have had 70 degree weather in December before, but probably not this winter. Does Holland have lots more snow due to the lake effect? Milwaukee has had more snow than Madison because they are on Lake Michigan.

Anyway the snow is pretty to look at but it is not fun to shovel!

We have a ton of snow here in Highland, Indiana!! Now we're in the deep freeze. High of -8 with a wind chill of -40. From a letter carriers point of view, this is going to be one long, long winter. My 8 hour route now takes 10 - 12 hours. Then we have the people that don't come to work because it's snowing or cold. I don't know what they expected when they became letter carriers in NW Indiana. Those of us that do show up have to do their routes in addition to ours. All I have to say is: LET IT SNOW, LET IT SNOW, LET IT SNOW!!!! $$ $$ $$ $$

It is apparently our turn now as we seem to be getting a few inches every day. At least it's the light, fluffy kind.

I can't remember ever having snow stay on the ground this long. Usually it snows and in a week it is all gone. It is going on 4 weeks now and we are expecting more today, tomorrow, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday! OK Christmas is over, all this white mess can STOP! I know I will regret wishing this but...wish it was June and the sun and heat were back.

No snow on the ground in my little section of the southeast corner of Massachusetts. The fact that I'm 15 miles north of Narragansett Bay and 45 miles northwest of Cape Cod has helped a little.

Big storm predicted for tomorrow! The Cape and the Islands will get mostly rain. My home is in the "snow-sleet-rain" section with expected accumulation to be 3-6 inches then possible washing away with rain. Forty miles northwest of me in Worcester County is expecting up to 16"! Good place for it up there. Their elevation is 1000 feet higher than my town.

I'll feel lucky if we can make it to January without snow on the ground. Past years have given us snow in November that kept the ground white through the middle of March. That makes for a long winter.

Happy New Year!

Bob

It is now "yesterday's tomorrow". I just took a look at the forecast on NECN and they are now predicting 4-8" in my area, and over a foot north and west of my location.

I guess it's time to take off the Hawaiian shirt and shorts and breakout the snow shovel. Darn! I should have fixed the snowblower before this!

Happy New Year!

Had some weather this morning. A small cloud passed over going from the NW to the SE. Might want to stay in the house John. I think it was heading your way.

Fortunately, the sun is back out now and everything is fine.

(Nobody needs to tell me how horrible the weather is back East and that I shouldn't make fun of it. I already know that I'm going to pay for being a smart a--. Our winter rain will be showing up any time now.)

It started snowing at 9:45 AM today here in Groton, CT and turned to rain by late afternoon. It is certainly a cold and dreary day but we are still...

The Madison, Wisconsin area just broke the record for snowfall amount in the month of December. We had 35 inches of snow! We just had another large snowfall on Friday. This time my car got stuck in the driveway and it was not easy getting it unstuck. No amount of shoveling or pushing would work. The neighbor finally had to use his truck to get my car out. This is fun?

We in the Syracuse area also broke the December snowfall record. We are up to around 95 inches for the season. Yesterday afternoon I cleaned off the bench I use for my "official measurement", another 13 inches since 12/28. This morning there appears to be another 3", it's still snowing and the temperature out on the deck is 9 degrees.

I am absolutely positive that this is the year I am going to see snow in Orlando. When I was walking my dog at 6:30 a.m. this morning, it started to rain lightly. It was about 35 degrees so it was a little too warm, but a few degrees less...I'm keeping film in my camera just to catch the event when it happens.

Snow update from western New York (as measured at the Buffalo Airport).....20 consecutive days of snowfall (third longest streak in history), 18 days with temps at or below 32, 100.2 inches of snow so far (as
compared to 13 inches last year at this time)
average SEASON snowfall is 93 inches! And the forecast.....more snow for the next few days but rain on Friday with a "high" of 40! County crews are responsible to plow 1100 lane miles of highway (the distance from Buffalo, NY to Jacksonville, FL) And on the upside - ski areas are having their best year!
