...for several days. Excite which has been providing interconnection to several cable companies is bankrupt and a judge has ruled that it may disconnect from these services, leaving those with Broadband from Cox, AT&T and several other cable systems.

My service says it may be several days before they have their own system up and running.

So if you don't see any posts from me Saturday, you can figure I'm off line at the mercy of Cox and Excite.

Who else will be affected by this?

well... I will be affected too, AT&T says they have a backup plan. we'll see. I still have my AOL also so I could hook up a phone wire again for a few days (I don't know if I'll be able to wait while pages load after being spoiled by the high speed)

I'm in the same boat as you guys too. I'm holding out hope that everything will be alright. If not, I may try using one of the free dialup services. But I dread going back to 56k internet connection...

Heres some info from CNN on the whole situation http://money.cnn.com/2001/11/30/technology/excite/

I'm another one! I still have my AOL so I can check the forums from there. One question...with all of the servers that have Excite...how in the world do they go bankrupt.

Patience is a virtue, guys! Through bad times and good times, I've stayed with dial-up on AOL. Fortunately, things have been good for a long time now!

I do not use my computer for business so if it takes a little longer to load something up, who cares. I'm in no hurry.

I live in the Boonies, or so I'm told by more westerly Long Islanders...so I don't even have the luxury of anything other than dial up really here...not yet, at least.
I do have a T1 line at work...but I guess between my newer computer and the maybe not so enormously heavy traffic on the servers I connect to for dial up out here (as opposed to further west on Long Island), I honestly don't notice a huge difference in my connections...not to the point where I am frustrated when I'm on dial up at home at least.
So, I'm with Bob...patience is a virtue.

So far so good. We're still running.

My wife works as an idependent contractor doing billing for a doctor. She works at home, via cable modem, with a remote connection to his server. Well, golly, his server's on the cable too. She may end up having to go in to his office. I'll give her three days before she quits if she has to do that!

Then there's my web site, hosted by @home. I'm finally showing up in most of the search engines. Now they'll just point to a dead link if it all shuts down.

Alas, I will still have a dial up connection. I happen to work for a company that also happens to be an ISP, so at least I could still get on until we get the phone company to set up our DSL connection.

I'm hoping they work it out. I like my cable connection.

After two or three months of bad service from @home cable I switched to DSL about a year and a half ago, maybe a little longer.... I have had only one outage in that time and they got it back and running in under a day.. now I am really glad I switched.

Well, I got mine back today and was able to keep in touch via the phone line for the short outage.

We had no outage, and we received an email this morning fromthe cable company that they signed an agreement with @home that will keep us live until they get their own system up and running in "a few weeks".

Yep, Larry. I got the same message for Cox. I think of all the companies that used Excite and Home, the only one to pull the plug was AT&T.

There may be a few of our regulars missing for that reason right now.
