Here's one to chew on and I think is interesting. Other that the boring people out there like me who use their name or nickname for a handle, what's the origination of some of the other handles. IE Gravedigger, the beaver, etc.

Hey SIDD - we didn't get your story!

Back in the AOL Lighthouse Collectibles Board days, there was a posting by a non-regular who was critical of something I had written or done. Other board regulars came to my defense and the mysterious poster said (something like) "Everyone defends John like he's some sort of Saint"

Others began calling me "St. John".

For some reason my daughter's high school X-ctry coach stated calling me Mombo. That was about 10 years ago (where did they go?) and it stuck.

thelgtkpr should be fairly obvious "the lightkeeper" LGT KPR is also on my license plate. I picked up this name a few years ago because of all the time that I spent working down at the Rondout Lighthouse in Kingston NY helping restore it and giving tours of the lighthouse on weekends. This name now applies to my present position as historian of the Hudson-Athens Lighthouse. This year will be the second year in which we will open the lighthouse on a limited schedule as we complete the inside restoration.

Todd,
Did not imply you were boring whereas I feel I fit in this catagory because I have no "made up handle". Sidd is just a nickname for Cindy because years ago working in an all male union plant, the guys helped to make me feel I fit in therefore they gave me the "male" name.
I'm really envious of those with such a creative imagination.

FredKuhl is an abbreviation of my full name. If I wanted to be real "Cool" or Kewl" i would have picked one of those. A few months back, St. John posted my upcoming birthday and told one and all to wish "The Ancient Mariner" a happy one. Nothing to do with my age, I am probably one of the 'Younger' ones on the board.

Everyone who believes this post, please E-mail me. I'd like to discuss with you about this wonderful bridge that I own a large share in. It is located in the friendly, super clean, safe haven metropolis of New York City. I might allow you to take over a small portion of my holdings

Fred aka The Ancient Mariner and bridge owner

On 4/7/99, I added the above photo of the Ancient Mariner. As you can see he is VERY tall, judging by the 200' Cape Hatteras next to him...

Sidd,

I'yam what I'yam. A gravedigger by trade. When you run a cemetery for over 20 years people seem to forget your real name and simply call you "Digger". Thus it has become my username for about everything associated with the internet. I'm always easy to find, just look for rectangular holes.

Dealing in "UAC" (Underground Afterlife Condominiums) does have its privileges though. I am responsible for the never-ending task of searching for the elusive proof that the giant "Seahorseasaurus" did exist as well as his present day relatives that have attached a relationship with HL's. Also during "Dead" moments at work, you come up with fantastic brain-storms such as the fabulous "HL CURIO VAULT", complete with concrete construction, marble shelves, drapery and your choice of either coach or lantern lighting (better have a strong sub-floor though)! Another first from the underground dweller.

DIGGER

When my wife Diane and first found this site, she registered as Dbee. I just used her account for awhile. My wife has four sisters and no brothers and does not understand the humor my two sons and I indulge in (sometimes sarcastic with a little bite). She was afraid I would say something on the forum that would get people mad at her so I had to get my own account. She figured if people knew my name and knew where I lived, I would behave myself. Whether she was right or not is up to you to decide.

I've been reading "True Confessions" in this thread so I might as well add mine to it. Bob M (that's Bob with one "O") is my first name and the "M" is the first letter of my last name which I cannot reveal because it's classified and I'd have to kill you if you found out.

My email address is BIRI97@aol.com. The BIRI stands for Block Island, Rhode Island, where I spend about 40 days a summer. The 97 stands for the year 1997 which was when I signed up with AOL.

All my HL dealings with this forum are under my name of "Bob M". All my dealings on eBay are under my User ID of "rjmck".

By the way, Fred, I already traded that bridge for the rights to the first Coquille Glow. <^>

Idea!!!!!

This may be over-stepping boundaries, if so let me know and I'll go back to digging. I like the idea of knowing eBay usernames. Since I frequent eBay quite a bit, I would hate to think that I was in a bidding war with one of my friends here on the Forum.

Personally, if I recognized a username of one of you with previous bids on a piece, I would bow out of the bidding so as not to needlessly raise the price of an item. I would like to see all of you get the best deals possible on eBay! We all know that another one will be available sooner or later to bid on. Or is eBay simply a warground with battles to be won.

It's an idea! Personally, I try to bid only what I am willing to spend for something, it doesn't always work though. By posting my eBay screen name, not just my friends would know it, but also everybody who has been to the forums. I have already changed my eBay ID because of people letting me search for things and then they just pull up my list and go right down the line bidding on them. I guess they like my taste. Now I find something that I am interested in bidding on and just wait until the closing and bid. I have lost some things this way, because I might not have access to a computer at the closing time or computer problems (mine or eBay).

Interesting ideas put forth Paul. I don't think ebay should have a search capability for the user ids that show the auctions you're bidding on just for the reasons you just stated. I tend to find some deals just because some people can't or don't take the time to spell words properly, (and not just leaving the "u" out of harbour) I don't feel that it is fair for another to benefit from my creative search. Of course if you see me on ebay I think you'll recognize my ebay handle

I have been NvrEnuf since I decided that that would be the vanity plate on my caddy (I never bought one). but I have retained that handle in almost everything I do. It seems appropriate for so many things: NvrEnuf Fun, NvrEnuf Sports, NvrEnuf Sex and since becoming NvrEnuf Harbour Lights, NvrEnuf Money

Thanks

Well, the nickname started in high school for Mike, a shortened version of "Kaiser" and continues today.

One car has "KAIZ" plates and the other has "KAIZ TOO". When I ordered the second set, Mike said I should get the number "2" instead of "too" but I told him I'm not second to him --I'm Kaiz "also"

So thats why we go by Kaiz.

Dang, everyone has such great stories for their handles. I wish I had one Here's my story: I love Pigeon Point light. (I just bought it this A.M.!!!) I saw it from the ocean in a storm when I was about 8. I really wished I was at the lighthouse instead of on that 24' sailboat in an October storm (I used to get horribly seasick!) I thought of using Pigeon Point as my handle, since I wanted something LH as a handle. But I thought that wouldn't be right to use an actual LH name. And I don't live in Pescadero. No pigeons here either. But I do have doves! I feed wild birds and had doves nesting here last year. The baby fledged one year ago the day I first posted, so I thought "why not Dove Point Light?" so that's how it happened. Besides, my real name, Barbara, is really boring! I go by Dove on the chat so you can recognize me as the same one on the forums.

The 'drwhok9' handle comes from the British science fiction/adventure show Doctor Who. This show was about a Time Lord who could travel in space and time. At one time he had a robot dog called K9. I just combined the two since many variations on 'drwho' were taken when I set up my first e-mail account.

Just call me a 'Wacko' for Harbour Lights and Dr. Who, as well as just being 'wacko'.

Short version: My Nickname in High School was Wyllde Weasel. When me and my frinds first got into BBSs we all used our nicknames as handles. Well the main board we used assigned numbers to it's users, mine was 58. After a while the board got updated to a new software that only allowed 8 chararecter user nams. So I went with Weasel and added the 58 to the end so everyone would know it was the same person.

I have several different handles or screen names in this case. There are two that I respond to the most.

The first is engbrady. The eng is taken from my job title, Electronic News Gathering Editing Coordinator. The Brady is my last name.

The second is WackoPaul or on the forums SaintWackoPaul. If anybody gets to know me they readily understand the Wacko part and Paul is my first name. The Saint part goes back to when John first started his unofficial website about Harbour Lights on AOL. There was a board that we could post comments about Harbour Lights, sort of a very basic start of a forum. There was a group of around 30 to 40 that regularly posted and went to a HL chatroom on AOL that John started. One time a person flamed John with some negatives comments about him on the board and everybody posted what John is really like and how the poster was incorrect. The poster came back with the response that John must be a Saint and the rest as they say is history. That is the short answer behind the Saint name. John named me a Saint on the forums; it stands for Administrator and added other Saints to help administrate the forums.

While I am on the name subject, the Wacko name was a simular story. Short version a poster warned a second poster to be careful these guys are all a bunch of Wacko’s.

I guess the moral of the story is don’t call us a name, because we will use it.

Mine is another one of those boring first name and last initial handles. You will notice that it is all in lower case letters. There are 2 reasons for this: 1) it is easy to type and 2) when I pledged my pharmacy fraternity, we were all required to write our names in lower case letters during the entire pledge period. This did not apply to legal documents- only papers, etc that we did at school. For 6 weeks in the spring of 1979 (wow, that's a long time ago) I was known as pledge chris ettling (my maiden name). After I got married, I became Chris Grass (yes, like the green stuff that grows in your yard), but never could become accustomed to being "Mrs" Grass (that is my mother in law). Quite simply, I enjoy being just "Chris" (although my full name is Christine). A teacher in 7th grade started calling me Chris and I rather liked it. My mom did not. She was sure that somewhere along the line someone would think that I was a boy (I did get registered for boy's PE in Junior High), but as the years passed, even she called me Chris. Oh well, I am quite simply chris, chris g for the forums, and quite happy to use this handle!

Thanks for asking. It's a question that I have had for quite awhile since I joined the forums last year!

Mine is because of my job. I'm a paramedic here in KY. Our EMS (Emergency Medical Service) staff had a program that we presented to the schools, grades K-3 that promoted safety in the home, wearing seatbelts, and how to dail 911 to get help. (Remember we're talking to kindergarden kids now...) Some adults need help on how to dail it too
I made a coloring book to hand out to the kids and the carracter in the book was a man in a cape with a "Star of Life" on his chest. Kinda like "superman",
He was: Faster than V-Tach...
More powerfull than a M.I. ...
Able to leap peaked T waves in a single bound...
IT's MEDICMAN !
I've been "Medicman" ever since. I use it on my ICQ and Gooey list too.

When I registered for the forum last year I was really nervous about my personal information being public.(All those Wackos!) Not wanting to use my real name(Donna)or even my e-mail address, dmartell I had to pick something.

So I chose my chilhood nickname, DeDo. My best friend since age 6 was a girl named Diane. She lived next door until her family moved to Nevada when we were in college. Hence, our nicknames for each other, DeDi & DeDo.

After several months on the forums I was much more comfortable & would have preferred my own name but that would have meant starting over with the # of posts so I now just sign at the bottom of my posts my real name:
Donna

PS: Diane & I are still friends, she traveled to my 50th B'day party last year.

JUL are the first 3 letters of my first name and I originally registered that way, but due to a technical problem, I had to re-register so I added the first letter of my last name hence JULB. My initials are JB.

My signature image is that of a psuedo lighthouse here where I live in THE COLONY, Texas in the northern suburbs of Dallas. It is the main building at a country club by a lake. I edited a photo that I took of it and I decided to use it as a signature image in case there were any other technical difficulties in the future, then I could register under virtually any name but people could still recognize that it was still me by my signature image.

Mine is self explanatory....My grandtwins call me "Nana"...if you have emailed me you have seen the nanabananax2k...if you were wondering, my twins call me nanabanana and there are two of them both having a name that begins with the letter K. I have had other nicknames during my life, "Ethel", "Dearest", "PeterRabbit", and "Pedro", but of all of them, I like Nana the best.
