I recently (April 11th) had an unpleasant experience at a Harbour Lights dealer. I went in to check on the availability of recently issued pieces and the dealer only had one of the 1999 limited edition releases. I asked an employee if they had received White River, MI yet, and she said, "No, everything is backordered." I mentioned how I had heard that many dealers had received the piece already. She suggested that other dealers could have only ordered the piece but not received it because the piece and other new releases were backordered. I finally figured out the problem, and I asked, "Are you on auto-ship?" Here's the part that bugs me: she said, "No, we don't want their junk. When a dealer is on auto-ship some manufacturers just send out the stuff that wouldn't sell otherwise." I couldn't believe this employee would refer to the collectible that I came into the store to buy as "junk!" So, what to do? Although the sales clerk making the comment was an employee and not the store owner, I don't plan on patronizing that dealer anymore. It bothers me that the dealer is apparently blaming show shipment on Harbour Lights, rather than acknowledging that they simply didn't order the piece early. Should I let Harbour Lights know that this dealer has at least one employee who refers to the line as "junk?"

Kevin,
If you have already made your views known to the offending employee (always the place to start), the next step would be to talk to the store manager, then the owner (if different than the manager.) Contacting Y&A directly should be your last resort in resolving any conflict, imo.

"The squeaky wheel gets the oil!" I would definitely bring it to the attention of the store owner.

I would think that pointing out this type of behavior to the manager or owner would be beneficial to both of you ( you and the manager or owner). I know that I would appreciate that kind of info about one of my employees. That would most likely put you on good terms with that person. If not then you know that they are not someone you would want to deal with.

If I were the owner or manager of the store, I would want to know. Nothing should be referred to as "junk", especially a line the customer has expressed interest in.

Kevin, Do the owner a favor and pass this info on to them, as a retailer they want and need to know what their employees or saying.

We have a dealer we like to work with, and I'm sure they would want to know if one of their employees treated any of their customers like this one has.

Sounds like an employee needs to be in a non-customer oriented business like fast foods to me. I don't think I'd want that person in charge of condiments on my lunch. [This message has been edited by LuvLights2 (edited 04-27-99).]
