This was my original answer to Art's straw poll on motives for buying HLs. After re-reading the question more clearly, I saw that Art requested nothing but a simple A or B. I moved my reply here to be more appropriate.
"I thought about this for a bit, and I have to offer a mixed reply. I think it started at B, but has moved to more of a combination of A and B.
I don't think it's possible to separate the two motives so easily. I like lighthouses which I why I chose HLs as a collectible. On the other hand, I am collector by nature and I don't think I would be buying nearly as many if I didn't feel that there was a collectibility factor involved."

I have to agree that this is a question that does not lend itself to a clear a or b answer. I am buying them for both of those reasons. I'm buying some with purely the collectibility in mind and some with purely the love of the particular lighthouse in mind and some for both of these reasons. I chose HL's because I like them better than the others available. I like the way they look in general, and yes a small part of it is that if, and I underline if, I choose or need to sell some of them in the future I will probably be able to get more for them than I paid for them. It is a consideration, but not a prime motivation. I'm just wacko (well, not quite yet but I'm working on it). Dennis

Even if you sold them for what you paid for 'em you'd being doing better than you would with other (non-HL) lighthouse models. If there's a flourishing secondary market for CSC or Scassis or Lefton, etc. I haven't found it.

That's a very good point, Tim. I never thought of that. Does anyone actually know if there is much of a secondary market for lighthouse replicas other than HLs? I've see very few on eBay. Is there another "auction" carrying large amounts of other brands? Bob

I buy them because I like and no other reason.
If they should increase in value great, my son and daughter will benefit from it.
As of the present time I don't see myself parting with any of my Harbour Lights.

I too buy them because I love 'em. Do I care about the value? You bet I do! But, I don't buy them for their value, real or imagined.
