For a while, I have thought that Suffolk County was the county in the US with the most lighthouses. However, today, our new members Frank and Claire (DoorCountyLighthouseInn) have turned this into a "is it really?" situation.
So, here's my question. Which county has more lights? Door or Suffolk? I'm posting this in the FSB in case we get some territorial conflict between the residents of both those counties.

Suffolk County Lighthouses:
Cold Spring Harbor, Lloyd Harbor (Huntington Harbor), Eaton's Neck, Old Field Point, Stratford Shoal, Horton Point, Long Beach Bar, Orient Point, Plum Island, Little Gull Island, Race Rock, North Dumpling, Latimer Reef, Montauk Point, Gardiners Island (no longer exists), Cedar Island, Shinnecock (no longer exists), Fire Island.
If my math is correct, 18 total, 16 still standing.

Pam, traffic is always an issue here on LI. But something else for you to consider is the fact that most of these lights are actually offshore and can only seen by boat. We run two cruises a year (in May and September) to see some of these offshore lights. Another problem is a few have very limited accessibility (i.e., Eaton's Neck is now part of an active Coast Guard station). They all can be seen, you just need some time and persistence. If you decide to come out to LI, let us know, and we'll try to help you out.
