The FSB is a great thread for this next inquiry.

Many HLs depict similar appearing lights around the country and the world. What would you nominate as the most odd looking light that Harbour Lights should consider for future manufacture?

Forget Eddystone, that's already made. Please note whether or not your nomination still exists or has fallen to the elements.

Let the nominations begin!

Bob

The sixteenth century "Monster" at Cordouan Island, France. Built against almost impossible odds to a design by Louis de Foix.

Built on a circular foundation 135 ft. in diameter and protected by a wall 28 ft. high. Constucted of cut stone, its interior included a chapel for monks that was as ornately decorated as the exterior, including statues and all manner of elaborate architectural ornamentation.

Couldn't say if this version still stands. The article I read never mentioned any details after this time period (1791). Maybe one of our world travelers can verify to its status.

I am sure that there are stranger, but the first time I saw a Frank's Island, LA light that Lefton has in their Lost Lights series, I couldn't believe the design.

This is the write up in the Lighthouse Depot. It has a most bizarre story as one of the earliest lighthouses in LA. "The construction cost was approved for $85,000 and was one of the most elaborate lighthouses built at that time in America. More than a million bricks, 200 tons of stone, and 800 tons of timber were used. It even had a fancy marble staircase. It was so heavy it began to sink immedediately. Within days of completion, the walls tilted, masonry cracked and the whole thing fell to pieces, swallowed up by mud and alligators."

This would be a great HL sculpture...

Derith, I must agree with you that Franks Island lighthouse and the story about it's demise would make for an interesting Harbour Lights product, especially if they did a before & "during demise" (before & after) set.

Thanks Paul, looks like there's been quite a few changes since then. This is the version I would like to see done, I think it is after the 3rd remodel around 1791.

Off the top of my head...I'd say "Metal Man" near Rosses Point in Sligo, Ireland...I have seen it mentioned in a lighthouse book...but I don't know think there is actually any house associated with this light. I believe it is still there though...and there was a prototype of it somewhere in Britain...and a possible twin somewhere in Waterford. I'm not particulary fond of it...but then again, the first time I saw Eddystone, I thought it was a little odd as well.

I vote for Franks Island just because it has such a great name!
