Do you believe GLOWs have no impact on the collectability of the Limited Editions?

I tried to participate in this poll but this computer won't let me. I've clicked on both buttons (vote now and results) but nothing happens. I guess I'll have to try again later.

...or do you have some sort of "Pop-Up Stopper" software? if so, turn that off.

I just posted my vote. It would not let me in on my home computer until I logged in. I was logged in at my work computer when I was unable to vote. I know I was because I ws able to post my above message.

P.S. - Is this poll really going to run until 2010? Seven years is a long time.

Maybe it's part of a 7 year master plan for the future of GLOWs. wink

I could sure give you a 7 year master plan for GLOWS, but, I don't think a lot of people would like to hear it.

You know Rich, as much as I've enjoyed poking fun at you from time to time over the last year about this subject, my opinion of GLOWs is beginning to change. You won't hear me say that they're the root of all evil, but I am starting to scratch my head a little. I still say buy what you like, don't buy what you don't. The last couple of years though I don't really understand some of the lights produced as GLOWs. Especially this year. Yaquina Head is one thing - it's been what, 8 or 9 years since the LE came out. But to make GLOWs out of Hillsboro and Oak Island three years after the LEs were released seems questionable. Just to let you know....

Please forgive my professional criticism of this poll. As a few of you know, my main occupation is to conduct market research; something I've been doing for 32 years now.

The problem with this question and the answer choices is that it needs a clear question and a balanced set of answer choices. The answer choices also need to be inclusive -- that is they need to include all the possible answers -- or at least an "other..." choice.

A clearer question would state the opinion as such and then ask respondents to indicate their level of agreement or disagreement with the opinion:

Some Harbour Lights collectors believe that the release of GLOW open editions hurts the collectibility of the limited editions. Do you agree or disagree with this opinion?

A 'balanced set of choices' would include, for example:

Definitely Agree
Agree Somewhat
Not Sure
Disagree Somewhat
Definitely Disagree

These answer choices are 'balanced' in that there are two 'agree' and two 'disagree' choices and a neutral choice in the middle.

However, there's still a problem.

'Collectibility' can mean different things to different people:

The ability to purchase a limited edition?
The desire to collect limited editions?
The increase in value of limited editions?
etc.

Not a criticism of Sean, just a professional observation.

Among the worst surveys are those published by U.S. Representatives and Senators looking for support of their positions on issues.

I don't purchase GLOWs anymore. I use to buy all of them.

I purchased GLOWs because they were well done and looked good on display. They were also affordable and easily obtained as compared to those hard to find and expensive limited editions.

Collectors with large collections of LEs may say there are no places for GLOWs. Collectors with more modest collections welcome GLOWs as a way to display their favorite light.

Six or one, a half dozen of the other...

I have been, still am, and always will be against GLOWS and all of the other open edition giftware that HL continues to flood the market with...all of this stuff has effectively turned my collection of LE "diamonds" into cubic zirconiums... mad

Well, I'm certainly glad that at least one member of the Forums that was in favor of GLOWS is beginning to "SEE THE LIGHT" about the "non" rhyme and reason HL has for bringing out GLOWS. There is NO logic to what they pick to make a GLOW other then maybe the money logic. They are, of course, in business to make money and if they didn't have money sense they would not still be making limited editions. The would have gone the way of Lefton and Spencer Colin, however, I still do not like the idea og GLOWS when the limited editions are still available at retail price. The one reason that Coquille River held it's secondary market value as well as it did was the was no GLOW on the market so it maintained a fairly steady secondary market price. Along came the GLOW and over the past two years the secondary market price has dropped from $2500-$2800 dollars down to $1800-$2000 dollars. Who would want a LE if they can buy a GLOW for less then $100.00? Oh well, at least one forum member (Pierhead) is catching on and now we have to go after the remaining 700-900 members.

Rich cool
