I was at my local HL dealer and bought 2 new lights..I was at the counter paying and my dumb luck, the manager asked me if I wanted the last Fresnel light they had.She said she called everyone on the list but noone wanted it.Its #573..Of course I took it and its my second..Yes both are green tint. The other is #1692.Anyways,I opened it for inspection and got a "Cracker Jack" certificate for a collectible light..Anyone know about this and what does it consist of?Any clues?

This is news to me. Hadn't heard anything regarding this "Cracker Jack" certificate. I better check my box carefully.

I never heard of that either. It makes me wonder how many of those types of things might be removed by store employees before the piece is sold. Who would ever know. I'm sure all boxes are opened to inspect the piece when it arrives at the store. If there was a certificate inside the box for something free, the employee could pass it on to a friend or whoever they choose. I hope I'm wrong in all cases.

Maybe JC can do a little leg work for us and find out what this "Cracker Jack" certificate is. Also, find out when it was started, on what pieces, and how many for each line shipped out. JKevin, who knows? Maybe you got the one and only.

I to found one of these "Cracker Jacks" certificates in my purchase of Portland Breakwater. My dealer had no idea of what it is about, , so I filled out the info needed and sent it back to Harbour Lights. Just waiting to see what the piece is. A early Christmas present?

Harbour Lights did the same promotion last year. The only difference is that they used a different certificate. If your worried about employees or shady dealings you might consider a different dealer, otherwise relax and be happy if you got a certificate. If you didn't don't give up. Just keep buying, you might get lucky.

Congrats to the lucky!

Yep, Harbour Lights says they randomly inserted some of these 'Cracker Jack' certificates into Fresnel AND Sister Island boxes. Send the Ceritificate in and see what you get. Items are randomly selected so everyone won't receive the same thing.

Better go back and dig through those two boxes!

As I mentioned in an earlier post, my lens #602 contained one of these certificates. It asks for the name and flag number of the piece it came with, along with the dealer's name. (I wonder how closely Harbour Lights tracks these?)
I immediately sent it back, and in less than two weeks received a fairly large package from El Cajon. Navesink is now proudly displayed in my collection. (And takes up a pretty good chunk of real estate!)

So does this mean we have to look under the bottom of the foam insert and only in certain boxes? I can see the avalanche coming out of the closet now if I have to go too far back!

Look only in the Sisters Island and Fresnel boxes. Those are the only ones that have been stuffed with the Certificates. See my post above.

As I stated in an earlier post I sent in my
"Cracker Jack" certificate and in return I just got a piece that I thought I would never own . I am now the owner of a Special Edition Navesink. All I have to do know is find a place to display it, Ireally dont have the room with all my other lights out but will find room somewhere.

Boy I cant get away with nothing with Carolyn watching my posts. I will say something that when she is right she really lets me know. I stated earlier that i found my certificate in Portland Breakwater, in all factuallity it was in Sisters Island box. I stand corrected by my wife.

We have learned that there are about 100 of the certificates in the Fresnel & Sisters boxes, and that they will all receive ..... you guessed it. Plan is to do it again next year.

I picked up my Fresnel Lens and Sister's Island Light yesterday. No gift certificates anywhere in those boxes. Oh well...maybe next time.

Glad to hear you finally got those two pieces Bob! How about the Christmas piece? Do you think you will get it before Christmas? If HL put one surprise in each box but one, I would get that one! Just my luck! O well, life goes on!

Navesink must've not sold well at all if HL has resorted to giving them away....

Navesink is one of the 1997 lighthouses that Harbour Lights is retiring early this year. Rather than destroy the ones that Harbour Lights has already had produced and delivered to El Cajon from the factory, Maureen said that Kim would much rather give them to collectors as a bonus gift. With the price tag that it carries I think that the final numbers will show that Navesink did pretty well.

Navesink is a very generous gift to be giving away as a bonus! I would look at it as receiving the equivelent of 3 average priced limited editions for free. What a great deal. I just wish one my boxes had the certificate inside. I'll hope for the best for next year.

Hi Randy, .. I did pick up the Christmas piece yesterday along with Sister's Island, Eldred Rock, the Fresnel Lens, and the Beckoning Beacons Special Event Exclusive. I think I'm only missing Whitefish Point, Rockland Breakwater, La Matre, and Fairport Harbor. I really need to check what I have in my storage area. Sometimes I purchase them and never take them out of the box. I'll be rotating a few new ones when I set up my Christmas pieces. It's time for some of them to go back in storage while a few more come out of storage and go on display.

Brent, ....According to Florida Law you have two days from the time of your message to return that "chad" to the Committee to Elect Al Gore President. Good luck! lol

Would anyone be surprised if they happened to recieve some Flordia ballots in their future shipments? At least then we would know what happened to the thousands that have been lost.

My usual dealer was not able to get a lens for me. However, because of a forum buddy, I was able to locate one and have it shipped to me. While I was waiting for my lens to arrive, I was talking to my usual dealer to let her know I had located one. She told me about the "Cracker Jack" certificate that was in the box of one of them that they had sold. You can bet I was looking for one in my box when it arrived!! Alas, no such luck, but you can sure bet that I will keep my eyes open in the future! There's really no telling what to expect from those "wackos" in El Cajon!

I recieved my Navesink Friday and now it sits proudly in my curio..I will admit I would not have bought it at the retail asking price.I did write HL and thanked them for the very generous gift. They are a great bunch and glad I am associated with them and all of you fine people in this forum.
