in tracking the sales of HL on e-bay since April 1, I have noticed that certain pieces are advertised "all the time" and that other pieces are advertised much below cost but seldom seem to sell. Has anyone tracked pieces that are offered for sale and don't sell?

my feeling is that these pieces are not deemed collectable by the seller, and, for some reason, don't seem collectable by any perspective buyers. In some cases, there seem to be a glut of the item (such as the Liberty paperweight and, lately, Barnegat). In other cases, the items seem to be overpriced (perception by the buyer?).

Could be these items don't have good enough descriptions to catch the searches that people do. For example, on the NY Skyline, the words "World Trade Center" should appear in the body text.

you may be right. However, some of the items have very detailed pictures and descriptions. Still the item doesn't sell or goes for below what would be predicted. Too bad I don't have more time at the moment, or I would track bidded items that did not sell to see if there's a pattern. I've been tracking sold items for April and May.

I've noticed on some pieces the LE# is not provided, or the item is sometimes overpriced for LE# being sold.

I have no hard data but speculate most of the models you mention are edition size 9500+ or newer, or Glows.

Another point to consider is that an Ebay item is only up for a certain length of time. If no one is looking to buy that item during the length of the auction it's not going to sell regardless of price. Had it been offered sometime sooner, or sometime later perhaps it might have sold.

I visit eBay several times a day to check on the progress of some real deals. GLOWs are cheap, but I don't bid on them. The 9500 editions are often available for less than half price. The same is true with many of the international lights, except for the Pharos Series.

I think most of the above are from dealers who got stuck with them and are trying to recover whatever they can on their initial investment in stock. Some of the above are from collectors who bought in a frenzy and decided not to keep certain pieces.

I believe it is safe to say that the international lights, although well done, are less desireable than the lights of the USA.

I just got through checking yesterday's sold pieces of HL on e-bay. It is again my impression that there were more pieces that had "reserve not met" than in April. Most, if not all, were American lights. The bids were low ($20-30 range typically). I haven't checked to see what the edition run for those pieces were, and that certainly would be of interest.

If there is a higher reserve than what the market is willing to pay, it could be from dealers and other original buyers trying to recoup what they paid. It could also be from those who want "to get rich quick" and think that if some pieces demand a higher price, then all pieces should.
