Bear with me. I'm opening this thread and 23 others like it as a place to record edition numbers and whether with or without lightning rods. My purpose is to try to establish how many of each piece was made with a lightning rod. Each piece has it's own thread to try to keep things organized. Don't bother reading them all unless you're like me and just can't stand not doing so. In a reply to this thread, please state your edition number and "with rod" or "without rod". ------------------ -ArtHere is my source of information on models having lightning rods: 216.46.163.98/modifications/pages/countries_rods.htm Have more than one model to enter data for? with no rod #3617
At the time of this post I don't believe there were any Southeast Block Island lighthouses made with rods. I base this on the fact that Harbour Lights has stated several times that there are none. Also Jim Rutherford in his Survival Guide states "While all the early Great lakes Series had the lightning rods in their original design, only New London Ledge claimed one among the New England Series." Jim was referring to the 1992 Introductions of which half were the Great Lakes lighthouses and the second half were the New England Series . I am checking with a person at this time who has a single digit Southeast Block Island lighthouse, if there are any that had rods on them his surely would. I will edit and add his response to this post, the first of next week.

I just got in touch with a person who has a single digit Southeast Block Island lighthouse, the number on his lighthouse is: Number TWO and NOLightning Rod!!

I checked with a collector who has one of everything He has a Southeast Block Island WITH a rod.
He also has a New London Ledge WITH a rod.
I can't get the flag #s because this collection is in built-in display cases where the whole front is a top-hinged door and is not easily removed. I'll talk to him again and have him check his inventory list.
How can this happen if a single digit item has no rod? Because pieces are numbered after they are manufactured and painted. They are not necessarily selected off the 'drying rack' and numbered in the same order as they were manufactured.

I have seen 3 double digit Southeast Island Lighthouses now without rods and a single digit without a rod. I would say it might be possible that he has a fake Southeast Block Island with a rod, especially if nobody else has one. If it is real it must have slipped through the cracks or why would HL say consistently that they made none with rods.
I have New London Ledge with a rod and have seen 2 others, although I don't know what that has to do with Southeast Block not having a rod.
The main reason that I keep pointing this out is that after the last time this subject came up, there was a Southeast Block Island on eBay listed as having a rod. It did not. So until some other people come forward with them, I would be very sure before bidding or buying a Southeast Block Island that is listed as having a rod.
Who knows maybe they tried one or two to see what it would look like with a rod.
