Having just received the British Isles Collection I noticed they were not serialized. The flag has a place for a serial number but there is nothing on the flag except a "#" and the year "2000". Can anybody shed some light on the reason they were not serialized and the edition size listed? They have nice blue felt and a clear white id label on the bottom of the piece and the white cardboard box but no serial number anywhere. Harbour Lights is closed for the holidays and may not open again until after New Years.

Just a guess, Rich...HL saw that the "quality" wasn't up to snuff with the first (one and only?) batch and abandoned the line early on, selling off the pieces to a few retailers to recoup their losses...?

These were supposed to be part of the Pharos line, weren't they?

Sounds like they abandoned the project before it really got off the ground. You are fortunate enough to have the lowest numbered pieces you could ever find, blank. That leaves you numerous options including leaving them blank.

They are extremely rare pieces and a great find for a collector.

They are not part of the Pharos collection. They were made in England just for the UK. My quess would be they were made by Harry Hines father.
Probally the only connection the British Islse collection has to Harbour Lights is the name.

Here is a link to a old post on the forum.

They also are not made of the same materials as the Harbour Lights pieces and are much more brittle and subject to easier breakage..

There is also a set of British Isles Little Lights which was put together by Harry's dad in England.. I have 10 of the set but can't remember off the top of my head just how many were made, around a dozen I believe.. These are the one's I have:

Needles, Isle of Wight
Bishop Rock, Lands end
North Foreland, Kent
Longstone, Northumberland
St Anthony Head, Cornwall
Beachy Head, East Sussex
Bell Rock, Scotland
Old Lundy, Lundy Island
Longships, Cornwall
Eddystone, Devon

Paul,

You are correct. There were 12 British Isles Little Lights. The ones you are missing are:

Flamborough Head, EastYorkshire
Portland Bill, Dorset, England

Rock,

I will do my best to take and post a picture of the 12 lights. But my talents at photography and posting are severely lacking. That’s why I wanted so very badly for Jen to attend the 2005 Reunion so that she could give a lecture/class on HOW to make decent photos and another on HOW to post them properly.

It even crossed my mind to give her my room and I would sleep in the lobby. But for obvious reasons she is unable to attend the festivities. Plus she has her reputation to think of.

Dave, are you listening?

Thanks, Bob, I got the others before the last two were available and just never sent for the last two... I need to try and get them.. After I shoot the new releases (2005 HL), when I get home, I will shoot a group shot of the 10 and post it..

They aren't as nicely done as their American counterparts, that may have been the reason that I didn't get the last two at the time..

BTW Harry Hines dad's name is John Hines.. John Hines Studio produced Dave Winter Cottages amongst other items over the years..

Paul,

You are absolutely correct about the diminished quality. I just purchased them because they were available at the time.

Just a thought -- maybe you could possibly be a candidate for giving a lecture/class on HOW to make decent photos and another on HOW to post them properly?

Or make a suggestion as to a possible candidate?

I have toyed with the idea of something like that ( working with your images for printing and the internet) and talked to Dave briefly about it. Sort of a follow-up to the workshop I did at the Baltimore Reunion... Dave, Patty and Mike are working on a lot of great ideas for the reunion and that is just one idea in the mix..
