Another coquille paint variation.

Coquille River No-Number went for $765

Coquille variation on ebay

The Paint variation is, it has green window mullions at the light with a four-panel door at the entrance. All four Panel doors are made in Canada and have a cream or white mullion frame at the light. This is the first four panel door type that I have seen with a green mullion frame.

Also the seller said that its base color is muddy beige with gray highlights in the crevasses. I don’t have my coquille in front of me, but I believe that all are gray except for a California made paint sample that on this forum was discovered back in 2000

As for as I can tell it does not have a number. If it did have a number I would put it just before the “white mullion Canadian” and right after the “California made” version meaning its number would be somewhere between 290 and 380. I do not have any coquilles logged in on my spread sheet for thoses numbers. So I have no record of what happens for them.

The other possibility is that it was a paint sample for the first made Canadian version, but was discarded.

Daniel, doesn't that lightning rod from that ebay auction look strange to you? long, straight, and stiff

I've had a few lightning rods missing. Easily replaced with a brush bristle which is straight. This is a SUPER BUY. I'm tickled for the buyer's good fortune and even happier for the price he paid and the uniqueness of the item. I wish I were home, for I would have been a bidder. Would be real interesting to see how many CF members were bidders.

Only three people bid on this. I know the perspn who won it and have seen the piece. The lightning rod looks like it may be bristle and could be a replacement rod. Otherwise the piece is in great condition. The number flag looks like it may have had a number, that is no longer there. The only traces of a number are a possible number 5 then it is blank /5500.

Wow you people are good.
I agree with all that has been said.

I have California, Canadian and Malaysian made Harbour Lights and they all have the wire.
The only Nylon type lightning rod that I have is a replacement that I got from Harbour Lights back in 1999. It looks just like the one on Ebay.

I believe it was Rutherford that said in one of his books that Harbour Lights started out with the wire and after many problems with breaking HL started using nylon. But as I said before the only Nylon I have seen are replacement rods by HL. I think it is probable that when HL discovered a lightning rod problem and they started replacing them with Nylon but the factories never switched over to nylon. It is possible that some of those little stubby rods you see on the tail end of production of the lightning rods may be Nylon but I don’t have one to examine.

Does anyone have a lightning rod that looks like a nylon or a bristle?

With what HCS said I would lean toward the Coquille not being a Paint Sample but a standard Paint variation for numbers somewhere around 290 and 380.

Unless I don't know what I'm looking at, I would say that 95% of my rods are nylon. They are all flexible so I have to assume they are nylon.

I have only seen flexible lightning rods that's why I asked the question.

Well all most all of my lightning rod collection is two and three digit so I am probably not the best judge on the later Malaysian lightning rods.
However I do have three Malaysians with fairly high numbers for when you come to lightning rods and they have the typical bent rod syndrome that is standard with wire. they can be bent and hold the new position. Don't try this at home unless you are a trained lightning rod bender. I don't want to be responcible for anyones lightning rod breaking.

PART II

More on the Lightning Rods.
I just took my three Malaysians (Admiralty head 2483, West Quoddy 2373 and Sandy hook 3558 ) with lightning rods and compared it with the Nylon one that I got from Harbour lights. Two of the rods are about twice of thick and one is about the same size (West Quoddy). They are definitely stiff and somewhat sharp at the end. The nylon is flexible and does not hold any bends in it, when bending.
