Its time for an end of the year opportunity drawing, and this one will be very special! Included will be the ONLY Paint Sample, an AP and a single digit model. On the info page , John has a nice explanation of what the paint sample is for those who may not know. Because the Paint Sample is being included the opportunity pricing schedule is a little different: a single opportunity will be $10, three will be $25.

Here's the scoop:

• This opportunity drawing will run thru December 21st at 9 PM EST.
• Opportunities will be $10 each or 3 for $25.
• Payment may be sent by check or you can use the PayPal buttons after completing the form on the info page .
• I will hold a drawing shortly after 9 PM on the 21st.
• We must sell at least $500 worth of opportunities or the drawing will be delayed until we have reached that amount. Don't think this will be an issue, but we just have to have a disclaimer.
• You will not receive a ticket, but will receive an email confirmation when I receive your payment.
• PLEASE print legibly!
• The first name drawn will win the Paint Sample, the second will win the AP, the last will win the single digit piece.
• Winners will be notified either by email or phone. I plan to have the pieces ready to ship so they can go into the mail on Saturday, 12/22. No promises as I won't live at the post office that morning, but they will go by Priority Mail so you would hopefully have your winning by Christmas Eve.

Checks need to be made out to me and mailed to:

Dave Hannum
PO Box 5
Kokomo IN 46903-0005

As is my norm, I will notify you when I have received your payment, whether by check mailed or by PayPal. As always, your use of checks is appreciated since it puts a little more into the fund to support the Forums and lighthouse preservation. That said, you may use a credit card on the PayPal link. You do not have to be a PayPal member to use PayPal for payment.

One last note: The only person not eligible to participate in this drawing is me. I have told the other committee members that they may participate in this one time opportunity to own the ONLY paint sample piece.

Thanks for your support in the past, and for your participation in this effort.

For those of you planning to mail checks... Please do start at the page linked above. This sends Dave an email letting him know to expect your payment by check and how many chances you are buying.

Thanks

He who hesitates is lost !!! There are only 16 days left to buy your Christmas Opportunity chances to win an Artist Proof, single digit or the "KING", the paint sample, of the Erie Land Light. This was our first Forums Exclusive and is very limited in production. Only 500 were made so don't miss out on your chance to latch on to one of these beauties. December 21st is the cuttoff so don't wait till it's too late to get your money to Dave. The "OLD CHECK IS IN THE MAIL ROUTINE WON'T WORK" with Dave when he has the drawing so make sure you give the mail an extra few days because of the busy Christmas season.

Having shot pictures of the paint sample, I just couldn't resist sending Dave some money for the opportunity of owning it.. It is really special!!

Plus by supporting lighthouse restoration and the forums if I don't win the sample it is still a win.. It's the old win, win!!

So, would someone like to enlighten us on the difference between a paint sample and an AP. I realize there could be some color differnces but how would I know? Is it marked Paint Sample?
thanks,
Bob

John posted a nice explanation of a paint sample on the info page:
Quote:
The 'Paint Sample' is one of two pieces cast from the first silicon mold made from the original wax sculpture. Both pieces are painted alike. One is shipped to the factory and the other is retained by Harbour Lights. The factory then casts and paints Artist's Proofs and sends them back to Harbour Lights for approval. The APs are compared carefully with the colors of the retained Paint Sample. A Paint Sample is very rare. The factory retains the original one it received. The Harbour Lights one may have been destroyed, auctioned or given away.
Paint samples will have no felt on the bottom. The originating artist will generally have signed them and dated them. I have seen at least one that had samples of the various paint colors used actually placed on the bottom of the piece. I recall seeing one that had Kim's "OK" on it. The flag will have neither a number or the AP indicator on it.

The lack of felt and the name of the originating artist would, I have to believe, be an instant indication that a piece is a paint sample.

Older paint samples don't have felt on the bottom... The paint samples now do have felt on them... I have shot several paint samples for the website and I shot a few for the book since they are done long before the AP's and they had felt on them.. The paint samples now have a special label on the bottom, which sometimes contains some double top secret instructions for the factory.. They used to just write them on the bottom. Most early paint samples were destroyed when there use was over, a couple were awarded/auctioned at the last Reunion.

Depending on how much they are handled they can be either in prime condition or a little beat up (I had one recently that had a missing railing on it when I shot it.. The paint jobs on the one's I have shot images of recently are really nice as you would expect, since that is their main purpose..

The potential is there for slight changes to be made from them before the AP's are made but not always..

This just off of the top of my head and I am sure there is more I could add if I had talked to Harry first before I posted but this is probably most of the general information about paint samples..

I have a paint sample of St. George Reef, CA. I won it at the MacKinaw Reunion for having the least hair on my head among the gentlemen seated at our table. It is my most prized Harbour Lights.

Back to business . . .

Thanks to all who have participated in this opportunity drawing so far. We have met the minimum we needed to proceed with the drawing, so it will happen as scheduled on Dec 21. Still plenty of time to get entered. Not often you will have the opportunity to own a paint sample piece!

Thanks for participating, Grace and everyone else.

With our snowy weather this past weekend I took the time to package up the three pieces that will be awarded Friday evening. All they need is the winners name filled in on the label and then off to the post office. Have you obtained your opportunities yet????

Hey Dave,
I'm taking a chance and testing my luck by sending a check by mail. It's included with your Christmas card. (Firm believer in the 2 birds with 1 stone... ) laugh
If I'm lucky enough to get it there on time, maybe I'll be lucky enough for being drawn.
If it doesn't make it there on time for the drawning, don't dare send it back. Accept it into the donation.
I was in such a hurry to get it in the mail that I didn't get the pic on the front changed to a lighthouse like I did on the others for the card exchange.

Getting close, folks. If you have mailed me a check please send me an email to let me know. Went back over all the entries to be sure I had tickets in the drawing for everyone. I wonder if a Bob will win one of the pieces? There are five different Bobs entered! Good thing they all had different initials...

Sorry that I had to use Paypal, Dave. I decided too late to buy some chances. I will send a separate donation after the first of the year.

Do you think you could post the winners on the CF's on the 21st? It would be super cool! By the way, John had an excellent explanation about the paint sample - if only we had read it when you said it was there! And I wonder why kids can't follow directions!!

Thanks so very much to everyone for your participation in this opportunity drawing! Your wonderful support will generate a net of about $1450, half of which will be used to pay server bills for the Collector Forums and half of which will go into the amount we will continue to donate to lighthouse preservation projects.

It is now my honor and pleasure to announce the winners and what will soon be appearing in their collections:

Paint Sample: Randall Ronne
Artist Proof: Don Nieter
Single Digit: Stephanie Dingler

Congratulations to all the winners. Enjoy your very special Erie Land Light pieces!

Congrats to all the winners -- and to the members of the Collector Forums for their support of the Erie Land Light project started in 2006!

Thanks also to the members to the work team for all their work and a special recognition to Dave Hannum for his 'above and beyond' work.

Finally, thanks to Harbour Lights for working with us on the ELL and on the upcoming Wisconsin Point projects.

Thanks so much. I'm sorry I didn't reply sooner but my wife and I just got back into town after a couple of weeks scuba diving an island off of Honduras...no internet access, needless to say!
Again, thanks as always we appreciate the hard work and time you put in, Dave.

After spending Christmas in South Dakota and Nebraska with my wife and our families, we arrived home last night to a big surprise. I was shocked to see the box with the ELL paint sample inside.

Thanks to everyone involved in conducting this raffle.
